My next door neighbor (in her 90's) has a hole under her house where 4 little kittens about 4 weeks old popped out this afternoon. My cat has 4 week old kittens and they look about mines age. I would try to help them out but there covered in fleas! I did feed them kitten food and they ate. We havent seen a mama cat. They seem ok just extreamly hungry. I can not take them in. I do NOT want them in danger. Plus I cant get all 4 out from the house. What can I do?

an ice cube in Iowa...
Do you have a local humane society or animal rescue league you could contact? If so, they will nurse and raise the kittens...and when ready, find them homes.

Be careful, though. I would be on the lookout for momma cat. She may be out hunting, because perhaps the kits are a bit older than 4 weeks...in which case, momma may spend longer periods away from them. Please don't take the kittens anywhere, unless you're sure the momma is truly gone.

Once you're sure she is, then I would definitely set them up in a separate area of the house, until you contact an organization that can care and raise them.

If you can get them out with food, I would put them in a carrier or a big box. Can you keep them in a garage for now? I would call a vet clinic and ask what they would suggest. It is very bad for them to be covered in fleas, they can die. I took in a kitten with fleas who was about 5 wks old. The vet put one drop of Advantage on him and the rest of the tube on my other cat. All of the fleas are gone and he is fine. Call a vet office, a call is free.

I agree with wookie, make sure the mom is gone first.

If they are covered in fleas...they need immediate attention since fleas can cause kittens to die. I would try to coax all of them out and take them to the vet office. If mom does come back....it would be a good time to trap her so she can be with her kittens and once she is done nursing, she can be spayed.

Try Giving Them The Commercial Kitten Formula They Sound As If They Still Need It. Especially If Momma Isn't Around To Help Them Out. Even If She Is Then It Will Help All Of Them. Don't Try A Flea Formula Until You Have Contacted A Vet, I'm Not Sure But I Don't Think They Can Have It At Such A Young Age

As far as trapping that momma cat, PLEASE be careful. A couple of years ago we had our door open on a beautiful evening. A stray cat just decided to come on in. My husband went to pick up the stray and it went CRAZY all over his hand and arm. We doctored him up and used neospoene.(never do that. Just wash with a cleaners.) Next morning his hand was swollen twice the size. We ended up at the ER as it was Sunday and Mother's day. They prescribe him Antobotics and sent him Monday to a plastic surgeon. At the plastic surgeon they lance his hand and put in a drain tube as well as a shot of antobotics. He had two days to recover or surgery would be done. Luckily it did improve but it lasted for a while. If I were you I would leave trapping momma cat to your animal control, after all you pay for them.

BTY, thanks for caring for those little guys. Too bad they have fleas. Hope they end up ok.

Although it is not a good idea to try to pick up a cat that you do not know...I would not advise contacting Animal Control...because they will most likely trap the mom and then euthanize her. Instead, you can contact a TNR group that can lend you a humane trap so that you can trap this mom, have her spayed and return her back outdoors.

Well Since I have my hands full with my 5 new kittens and honestly dont have time to add 4 more to the bunch I did find a neighbor who took them to a vet and is keeping them all! I will post pics of them asap. They were vet checked and are all doing wonderful. They are eating soilds and playing like normal 5-6 week old kittens. I do have one question though.... Since they are still very young will the adapt to people very well? Two kittens are still uneasy but hey I dont blame them!
