Weird question maybe... Do cats know that kisses are a sign of affection? Like if I kiss my cat on the head or something, does she realise I'm being affectionate with her, or does she just assume I'm being a weirdo?

They know... Dori absolutely knows that me kissing her is a sign of affection. When she is feeling cuddly, she comes over and will sniff my lips so I can give her a kiss. Sometimes she just rests her head under my chin so I can kiss the top of her head. I love giving her kisses and will kiss her head over and over and she loves it

I think our kitties always think we're crazy
, but I believe they associate any sort of "nice" touch, whether its with your hands or lips, to be a sign of affection

Danny does the same thing!
Sometimes I will say "Kisses?" And he will come over to get one.

They definitely know. My Jaffa tilts his head towards me so that I can shower him with kisses. He loves it and purrs his little head off.

Zissou sniffs my forehead sometimes, but when I kiss her on the cheek or something I think she gets really annoyed. She always pulls away with just her face, like a girl denying a boy at the end of a date, but then snuggles up under my chin. Maybe my breath is gross to cats.

My roommate licks her head sometimes, like a cat grooming her would, and she likes that. (Gross, I know, I know, I don't ever do it).

I know that some people think that I'm crazy, because I actually tilt my head myself and rub my head against my cat Sherbert, and I will actually start purring and stuff, and sometimes people are like 'wierd...' and it's really funny!
lol! I don't care though, b/c he's my baby!!!
lol!

an ice cube in Iowa...
Fergus definitely loves being kissed on his head, and little 10-week old Steuben is starting to enjoy it too...they bend their head down, and if they don't get their kiss, they begin head-butting me all over the face like, "Um...where's my smoochey???" Ripley, on the other hand (being the regal torti that she is) could be bothered with any of that business...she would rather I give her a chin scratch or a belly rub any day. The kiss thing is waaayyyy not acceptable for her.

But yes, I do believe that many cats understand and love receive affection through kisses...

I give my lil Katie kisses every night before bedtime. When I get ready for bed I will always go to where she is sleeping and give her kisses and tell her good night. Hubby thinks it's stupid, but I don't care. I love her!! And yes I think they know. When I say, kissy kissy to her she looks at me ready for the kiss.
