Hey all!

Just wanted to give you yet another update. Marmie was spayed yesterday, and apart from still being in heat, everything went fine, except she was very nasty, apparently before and after to the staff and us. I mean, I know she was stressed out, but there was no need for being so nasty. The staff said it was what they were used to, but I still felt horrible about the whole situation.

When we got her home for the first few hours, she wouldn't let us go near her. However, just before bedtime she let us near enough to pet her down and try and comfort her. She was still really stressed out. This morning, though, after we gave her some food, she was okay. I'm off from work to keep an eye on her, and she has been sleeping most of the day. She allowed me to pick her up earlier (while shaking like a leaf) and turn her over, so I could have a look. The incision looks fine...no swelling, no bleeding, and no signs of infection. We have to take her back in 10-12 days for suture removal and check-up; hopefully, she's more pleasant then.

Thanks again for all your support.

Thank you for getting Marmie spayed!
Please don't be mad at her, I'm sure she was very scared beforehand and then afterwards she was in pain and probaly still scared. It is surgery! She will bounce back quicker than you know it, and be fine soon enough.

Thank you for getting Marmie spayed!!! My cat is very bad at the vets...he gets very stressed when we are there and it takes him a couple of days to calm down. With all the strange smells of other animals and the bright lights and the needles..I don't really blame him for his reaction..and the vets know he will be that way..so they simply call a lot of people to help. Tigger sure knows how to command a room of vet techs.

Thanks guys! I just can't wait for the day that we can let her in our bedroom again so she can jump up and cuddle with us.

She's trying already to get in with us, but they told us that she isn't allowed to jump until her stitches come out. Maybe Tuesday or Wednesday wouldn't be too bad, but she can be quite quick. Hopefully, the stitches stay stitched.

We have her confined to the hall and bathroom and I noticed just a bit ago, since my last post, that she woke up and managed to get herself up onto the counter in the bathroom. Oh boy! Should prove to be a long weekend.

Take care!

My white cat got sick (allergic reaction to shots-skin turned hot pink, fever) and I had to take her to the emergency vet. She went nuts
, left one of the vets with foot long deep scratches
and was squalling and screaming so loud that she woke up a dog they had back there waiting to come out of anesthisia!
When I took her to my vet the next morning, she was still so ticked that my vet (who was a rural vet and does large and small animals) put a muzzle on her and hog tied her with tape after the first 2 minutes! This year (7 yrs later
) is the first time since then that I haven't asked for the muzzle and she still growled, but it was okay. The emergency vets weren't doing anything to "hurt" her- she's just got a spoiled personality, didn't feel good, and didn't want to be fooled with ! Did I mention she's horribly stubborn? She likes to pretend she's a princess, but the yard cat comes out when she needs it to
!

wow - i can't imagine trying to keep mine from jumping! both of my young girls were running around like nothing had happened the day after surgery - & Java had been in heat, just like Marmie... they were both fairly young, tho - Cable got spayed at about 5 months, & Java at about 6 months... maybe that's the difference? they didn't get stitches removed for a week. they were completely back to normal by then - jumping, running, etc.

The age thing might be the difference.

Anyways, she's pretty quiet today. When I pick her up, she closes her legs and puts her tail between them, so I haven't had a good look at the incision today, but she did roll over for a split second, and I didn't notice anything "not right." I'll be booking her suture removal and post-op visit Monday for next Saturday.

Hey.

The b/f got up around 4:30 this morning and Marmie snuck in the bedroom. She jumped up with us, so we figured it was just as well to leave her as is. She enjoyed a wonderful petting/purring session and then settled down and hogged our bed for the rest of the night. When we woke around 9:00, she was sound asleep under the sheets between us looking as content as ever! What a sweetie...

The incision looked a "little" bit red this morning, but the b/f assured me it was just because it was healing. I'll be checking with the vet tomorrow when I call to cook for Saturday, but to be on the safe side.

Napolean is an ANGEL at home, I can clean his ears, trim his nails, pill him, hang him upside down, whatever and he doesn't care. When I take him to the clinic he flips out and growls and gets nasty. He's even gotten to the point where he's tried to get me while he's there. When cats are scared they get really defensive. I wish he wasn't like that... but he is. So don't worry, you're not the only one with a crabby cat when it goes to the vet!

Don't feel too bad about Marmie's behavior. Our vets' office has a "Worst Patient of the Year" award, and Jamie hasn't missed winning it many times. The vets' assistants won't stay in the same room with him, and I have to make appointments with two vets, who wear safety goggles and thick, long-sleeved jackets when they check him out, even in July! It's very embarrassing.
