I don't know how people can be so stupid!!! My nephew works at a Boston Market in Denver, he is the manager...and some of the stories he tells about the employees there are insane! like one time when business was slow, he looked outside and some of the employees were outside throwing chickens at the passing cars!!! (and he said they WEREN'T giving out free samples... :LOL: )
And one time a lady ordered a whole meatloaf, and then they realized they were out, but when the lady came to pick it up, instead of explaining the situation to her, and offering her something else, he heard one of the male employees say to her..."Are you the lady who ordered the meatloaf? Well...we ain't got it" and he just walked off.

geesh!

Perry Marshall, who used to have the late night talk show on KDKA radio (I mention the station because it's 50,000 watts and can be picked up even in Australia. Also it broadcast the first program ever, the Harding/Cox Presidential election results.). At a smaller station, early in his career, the station went off the air. The director yelled at him, ordering that he make an announcement immediately, saying the problem would be fixed ASAP. Perry tried and tried to explain that dead air is dead air, that no one would hear, but the director got furious and insisted, so Perry, feeling very foolish, made the announcement to the dead mike!! Some people just don't get it!

I sometimes say I must be blonde from the roots in. :LOL:

Having been the on-site computer tech at my last company (small company, only 12 employees), I can relate to that story. Some people really are too stupid to operate a computer. (i.e. "I forgot to save and just powered down my computer. Find my file with all the changes I made.
)

Please don't think we're that stupid. I just asked for instructions on how to send photo's over the cat site forum for the third time because my husband and I are computer "slow". We're new at this fancy stuff, but catching on fast.

The problem I have is that nobody walks a beginner through things. When I worked at the piano store, the owner bought computers for our store and several others. A man came from the computer store and actually taught the manager how to use it. He came many times for hours, and the manager could also call him. I had a computer at home, an old Commodore-no internet, but I had a great word processor and printer. I had also learned to use the Apples we used at school. I could write short programs in basic and still remember quite a bit. But how the manager ridiculed me when he told me to do something, explained it in 30 seconds, and thought I should have been ok on my own! I finally told him I'd like to see him try my word processor. I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm picking up a bit of info here and there and by trial and error.

I was hired at my last job partly because I knew Windows and WordPerfect for Windows. It was only 1997 and they were just switching from DOS.
Fine for personal use, your choice, but for a business they were really behind the standards.

Anyway, having been on the teaching end of how to use a completely new system I can tell you that there is a difference between learning new things (like attaching pics or using smileys from other sites
) and just being stupid. Learning what cool things you can do with your computer is fun and exciting, and fun to share and teach, too. Stupid is expecting the IT or help line to perform miracles ("I just formatted my hard drive, where did all my files go? Get them back for me."). Actually, I never minded people asking questions when they didn't understand something. The dangerous people are the ones who think they know more than they do. They are the ones who destroy their computer and expect someone to undo everything they did, while giving them attitude the whole time.

Oh, Heidi, I didn't mean you guys! I didn't want Patsy to feel dumb. I have dealt with some dumb people, believe me. It's just that when you first get a computer, experienced people don't realize that you don't even know that underlined words are addresses! So, some of them start talking about downloading, urls, uploading, and they might as well be speaking in Sanscript! So we flounder around and learn things. As a teacher you know that we never assume. The way I approach a new adult piano student who took a few lessons as a child is, "I don't mean to insult your intelligence, but for the sake of review, let's go over the fundamentals."

You are completely right that no one explains stuff to new computer owners/users, and the manuals are generally even less help. I certainly wasn't trying to say anything about anyone on this site, either! Hey, it only took me 7 years of being on line to even join a forum. I was just sharing my experience having worked with those who honestly don't understand the program, and those who just shouldn't be allowed to own a computer. LOL You know, like some people shouldn't be allowed to operate a car.

Oh no I don't feel dumb, but as they say if the shoe fits! By no means did I take offense. I was making a joke and forgot the Ha! at the end of my statement. I laugh more at myself than anyone else ever could! Of course with the exception of my sicko husband who makes me laugh until I hurt.

I agree that people can be dumb. People don't know how to read(literly). I am not talking about those of us who have difficulty in reading comprehesion. I am talking about the vast majority who really do know how to read, yet when there is a sign posted somewhere, they ignore it. Like when the bathroom at work is out of order and they try to go in. They don't bother to look at the sign.

I am still learning the computer. Little by little, I am learning how to post things on forums. When I have time, I play around, getting to know it.

Patsy, don't feel bad....I don't know how to post pictures here yet, either....it always says they are too big, and I'm not too computer smart, so I'm not good at resizing them, so I just e-mail them to someone else to post for me!
