Its been a full five days since Yen escaped through a screen. I was out from 8 30 till now looking for her. I walked every alley in my neighborhood and then I drove with my van through the two blocks nearest to me.

On my travels I saw about 8 cats and none of which were my Yen. Then the last alley I drove down, all the sudden in this backyard, I see a siamese cat.

I pull over and I start calling Yen. I finally get a good look at the siamese cat and it wasn't Yen. I nearly just fell down and started crying. I was so excited I thought it was her, but it wasn't. I'm really starting to worry now.

Any tips for me????

Best Friendsâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji] Animal Radio recently interviewed Kat Albrecht, author of The Lost Pet Chronicles, and she gave some very good advice on finding a lost cat:

Most people donâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t differentiate between searching for a dog and searching for a cat, which is a huge mistake, because they are like apples and oranges. Cats are territorial, so when an indoor cat escapes outside, they feel displaced into unfamiliar territory. A displaced cat (and also an injured or sick cat) will hide and they will be silent. So walking around and calling the catâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s name doesnâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t work.

What that cat does is to look for the first place where she can hide, and she will stay there. Weâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]ve had people who have recovered their cats six weeks later, and the cat was two houses down, living under the neighborâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s house or under their deck.

Weâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]ve actually recovered lots of cats by treating them like ferals and setting a humane trap. These cats will sit there and watch and even listen to their person calling, but they will usually not respond.

Eventually, some of them will reach a threshold point between the seventh and tenth day where they finally do meow or they go into the humane trap, but many of them, especially the ones with skittish temperaments, just continue to hide.

As for a cat who is used to going outside, we really do advocate making your cats indoor-only. However, if an indoor/outdoor cat does go missing, it may be that theyâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]ve been chased by a dog or beat up by another cat. They may run into an unfamiliar area, and they may hide in fear as well, or than can be transported out of the area by crawling into a car or the back of a truck.

Outdoor cats are still territorial. They donâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t generally travel great distances by themselves, so theyâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]re going to be found within their territory or just beyond it. Youâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]ll want to get into your neighborâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s yard to search under their porch, under their house, and in potential areas where the cat is trapped, because, again, the behavior of an injured or sick cat is that they will crawl in or under something thatâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s familiar to them and they will hide. And again, they wonâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t answer your call.

I would set out live traps to try to get her.
Talk to as many neighbors as you can. take them a little flyer with a GOOD photo of her. Go to different streets near you and talk to those people.
If she's a friendly cat, someone may have taken her in assuming she's a stray.
Call every pound, shelter and vets office in your town. EVERY ONE. Call them every day as she may be brought in later.
We lost a dog of ours when I was little and my mom kept calling shelters father and farther away. She finally found her in a different county! Our dog ran for three miles and was picked up by an animal contral quite far from us.
PM TNR1 for some other helpful ways to look for her as looking for a cat is different than looking for a dog. (Edit: she already posted it! Thanks Katie!)
I hope you find her!

Go out looking for her in the dead of night - like between 2:00 and 4:00 in the morning. The world is quiet then, and for a scared kitty quiet is safer. Not to mention, she will be able to pick up your scent at that time when there aren't so many other scents interfering with it.

I know I read that you were sprinkling used cat litter around. Another scent trick is to get really sweaty in a t-shirt you can spare for a bit and put that outside.

Yea I was out last night but I guess I went too early. it was midnight. Should I be walking because my vehicle is too loud and will scare her away.

Yen is a very shy cat to begin with and does not like to be held at all, so I am doubting that she would go with a strange person unless forced.

I am making posters...just read I shouldn't do flyers. I was out this morning talking with neighbors and showing them pictures of Yen. No luck so far. I also put out these pajama's that I wore for two days so it would really have my scent on them for her. I also have the window open that she left out of open because she's never left our house any other way but that.

At 1pm I am going to get on the phone with local shelters and vets(Like at least 20-50 vets here) and I will be making a trip to the two cat shelters here this afternoon when the viewing starts at 2pm.

Oprah says to trust your gut instinct and mine is telling me she is closer than I think and that she may not want to come back in because at her last owners place, she was an indoor/outdoor cat on an acreage and I live right beside a large field and about 5 blocks from the city limits.

It's a trap that is sprang by pressure the animal puts on a spring door when then enter the trap that is usually baited with yummy and stinky food. That's just one brand. Many vets and shelters will loan them out, usually for just a deposit that you can get back when the trap is returned. Since you're calling anyway, ask if any of them have a trap you can use.

I borrowed one from the local Animal Shelter here, I had to put up a $25.00 deposit and got to keep it for one week. When I returned it they were gonna give me back the money, but I had decided since they were so good to let me borrow it and they had taken two ferals that I trapped that I just donated the money to them since they survive on strictly donations.

I am sending TCS {{{prayers and vibes}}} that Yen comes home soon. I believe that you're right that Yen may just have decided that she enjoys the outdoors too much; also, she might have been taken in by some well-meaning soul. I am praying that you receive some answers and encouragement very soon. Until then, my thoughts are with you.
