Hi all,

I have two American Bobtail Cats...One male, one female.....I bought the pair for breeding but she HATES him. It's not just when she is in heat..it's ALL THE TIME...Evertime he tries to get near her she wants to kill him. I don't understand b/c he is a handsome boy... lol

Does anyone have any suggestions to what I could do to at least teach her it's alright that he is in the same room? lol

Thanks in advance, Jan

Can I presume that they are not siblings? It happens a lot between siblings and close relatives. Females are more territorial the males and they show it by major disinterest. My Reecie will even bare fangs and claws at neutered males and spayed females...

Has her heats been extreme at all? If there is no mating at all and your breeder was aware of your intentions of breeding from the very beginning, you could ask for a replacement male or female...

As for being in the same room, the only thing that works for me at the moment is Feliway...

Sorry I can't be of more help!

I hate to say it but it happens. We have had many a stud and queen that don't like each other and there's just no way you can force them to cooperate.

I cases like this I always recommend trying another male. Some pairs are just not meant to be. If the female says no, it's a no. There's probably a reason for it (that's my strong belief).

Hey just cause they are cats, doesn't mean they will breed with everyone

I know of a persian that will breed to every female but torties - and no amount of trying will get him to breed them.

You might try a different male. And neuter your boy. If she hates the other male and won't breed, then you can spay her or contact the breeder and see how he/she can help you out with replacements.

Even if you sell a cat for breeding and/or showing, there is NO guarentee that the cat will breed or show - and you can't make them. Just means the better quality is there for potential.

How close is she with you? Often pets attached to a person are very territorial and simply don't get along with others!

You should really try going back to basics.

These ARE cats and even though your hopes are for them to mate you should try setting smaller targets for them. Separate the two from the rest of you cats (if there are any) and give them a fixing experience with each other.

Try finding a game fun enough for them both to play it with you and forget about each other at that time. Get them chasing together after something, get them hungry and then take two plates and have them both eating with you at the same time (Each from his own plate).

Get them so tired and then when they fall a sleep, carefully move one of them near the other.

Have them face new experiences together and you'll see that even the biggest enemies become biggest friends in the time of need.

Challenge yourself to see the biggest love in their problematic relationship and you'll see time will do his duty with them.

Sometimes I hope my Zoe wouldn't give up so fast to Kenzo, he's here two months and she's 4 weeks pregnant already
