Ethel is really skinny and all she wants to do is EAT! She doesn't nurse as much now since the kittens are 6 weeks and I was hoping it was because the kittens were taking so much out of her.

She is really funny though because she will call them out to nurse and then after maybe 2 minutes get up and walk away! The one kitten we are keeping only wants to nurse. It's as if she knows that she doesn't have to be weaned yet!

Let her eat as much as she wants and get her resources back. It is very hard on a queen to provide the nutritional support for her kittens and it takes a lot out of them. What are you feeding her, how much and how often?

I would recommend worming her with something from your vet, to make sure it isn't a parasite. I would also ask for a prescription of Hills A/D, to help give her some extra nutrients, while she is nursing, and a high quality dry kitten kibble. I agree with Gaye, let her eat as much as she would like, she will need all of the extra calories when feeding all of her babies. After her babies are weaned and she is spayed, she should begin putting her weight back on quickly.

Isnt it ok to give the mom KMR mixed in her food while nursing. If she is super skinny call the vet could be something going on.

She eats! No one can sit down without her joining them! It's funny because my older cat hates table food. So I have been giving her a little turkey and stuff, kmr as a treat and her kitten food. She seems to be getting a little heavier. I think with the way her milk makes her tummy hang down gives her an odder look as well.
