I found this ad when I was online looking for furniture:

Female, 10 months old basset hound. Very good, quiet disposition. Would trade for a small, lap dog that does NOT shed.

Who would trade a dog because it sheds..wouldn't you research the breed before you bought a dog??

That's pretty bad!!!!!!

I can't believe someone would try and trade their pet for someone else's. I hope that poor puppy finds a better home than the one she's in.

Yeah, like trading a pair of shoes...lets just trade pets, ok?!? Remember the story of Paris Hilton trading in her miniature chihuahua because it got too big? People are just ignorant sometimes. I have a 9 y/o dog who I wouldn't give up for anything.

I have seen other ads like that in the papers, and it's unbelievable that people do it, but they do!

It's hard to beleive there's a "trading pets" section in the classifieds.

It's terrible!

I've read similar things on the FreeCycle round here - offering their dog as they have to move house and someone offering a rabbit hutch with two rabbits!
The whole point of the group is to prevent adding to landfill!! Animals are not rubbish!

According to my husband... the zoo
I've seen an ad similar to that before... the gal claimed she had allergies and wanted to trade her shedding dog for a hypo alergenic (sp) dog.

I read an ad on Craig's List the other day someone wanting to trade their dog for a laptop for their daughter.

INSANE!

I've never read anything about trading a pet for something else, but I do know there are a lot of people around here who simply no longer have the time for their pets....when they are 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, or 14 years old! Then they put them in the give away ads.
There's a Persian/ DLH mix in the HS that is 8 y/o that they ran out of time for. She's really, really, really matted & a crabby old toot. Poor kitty.

some people shouldnt ever have pets...
I couldn't agree more, this is just an outrage, I mean, if you are willing to get rid of a dog because it sheds, grrrr.....

Well, the other dumb part is the fact that there is NO animal that doesn't shed!
If it's got skin, fur, feather, scales or what have you, it's going to come off!
Everything sheds! people, animals, insects, plants, etc. It's just how things work. If they want something that doesn't shed, they'd be better off with a rubber ball.

My mother hates shedding, but she would never trade the animal for that reason!

We had to get rid of our dog Harley a while ago. He was so unhappy because nobody had time for him anymore. Everyone was either working all the time or at school. For reasons like that I can understand giving away an animal... especially if they go to a better home.

Harley went to an elderly couple who loved him to bits. He was finally allowed on the furniture and even SLEPT with the family in their bed... a terrible crime in our house!

So I feel good about that because he did go to a home where he was loved and had all the attention he could handle. I still miss him lots!

But to get rid of a dog because it sheds... I have to agree do some research before you purchase an animal! Stanley makes all my black clothes practically white, but I love him too much to let him go. I think the laptop one was the worst by far!
