You've had such a stressful time lately, Jennifer. You remain in my prayers.

I'm really hating teeth right now. My friend has an abcess, my boyfriend has one tooth that's nothing more than a tiny chip now, another friend has been upset about a lost front tooth for months now because she doesn't have money to replace it. I'm going to have to get jaw surgery of some sort here in the next few months. Teeth are evil and I totally feel your pain.

I have several crowns. My teeth just stink...I had lots of cavities in the molars as a kid, so they were all full of fillings. And having babies takes its toll, as does eating too many gooey sweets.

I am currently half-way through a crown...had the tooth drilled down, and the temporary crown applied. When the permanent crown (which my dentist sends away for) comes in, it will be applied. They are supposed to last almost forever. I haven't had any trouble with the crowns (except for paying for them LOL!) But my choice was pull the tooth or crown it. I am way too vain to have my teeth pulled, and we do have dental insurance that pays for half the cost.

I have a friend who had her whole mouth crowned...it was a bit of a nightmare to do that many teeth at once. But like me, she has discolored teeth (from exposure to tetracycline as kids), and to replace one gray tooth at a time with white teeth would have looked very odd. If I ever have to do that, I think I'll just have the gray/white combo as I do two or three at a time over a few months.

I wasn't too impressed with her dentist, though. She replaced her teeth with caps that were just HUGE and hung down like Bugs Bunny! (She did go back and have it fixed!) My dentist always makes sure everything fits just right.

Best of luck to you as you get the repairs done. I would prefer to never see a dentist...but I'm glad they have been able to fix things so I can still have all my teeth!

I have an overbite, and an over-competant upper jaw, and am having problems with "lip competency" (the fact that my lips don't touch when my mouth is at rest.) I have been told that if my jaw isn't corrected, then because my lower teeth don't touch my upper teeth that they will continue to grow upwards into the roof of my mouth. That's no fun at all.

Well, I went to see another specialist about a week ago. It looks like the plan is to put me back in braces for a "short course." Then I'll get the surgery done. Without more recent dental molds they don't know exacly what kind of surgery yet. The guy knows for sure that they want to move my upper jaw vertically upwards (closer to my nose.) Then they MAY also move my lower jaw horizontally forward, and MAY give me a chin implant. (I'm not sure I like the idea of that..)

The guy I went to see practices three hours away from me, and the only orthodonist he deals with in my town is the guy I previously had braces with. So, I have to deal with that again. That guy had horrible cavitys show up on his x-rays and because he didn't inform me of them they got worse and I had to get two root canals done. Also, he was one of the first people to misdiagnose my jaw problems and tried to tell me that I needed my jaw wired shut for 6 months!

This guy says the recovery time for the procedures he thinks he wants to go with will be two weeks only of severe pain and swelling, and two months for my bones to heal completely. Way better than not being able to eat/talk/kiss/etc. for 6 months!

wow you have had no luck in the tooth department! Crowns maybe the way to go, but I know those can be expensive!!!! maybe just get them all pulled and get dentures? my dad had that done around 40- if you didn't know, and he doesn't stick them out at you, you'd never know he had them
