My husband is having a slight reaction to our new kitten...he is getting hives on a very localized section of his neck. Same spot each time. We got a Siberian kitten, which is supposed to have less of the protein in their dander that causes allergies, so I was hoping my husband would be 100% OK. I am also hoping he will eventually become "used to" the dander and not have a reaction with time.

Anyways...I am trying to alleviate his symptoms for now and came across this lotion:

Does anyone know if these type of things work? In speaking with the woman I got the cat from, she told me that once he is 8 months old and the oils in his skin develop I should not wash him at all, since it is the oil that actually helps with allergies. He is only 3 months now though....so I feel bad that my hubby may have to suffer for 5+ months!! Any other suggestions to help him out?? THANKS!

I have never heard of that product so I cannot comment.

I have, however, heard nothing but good things about these products.

Simply wiping down the cat with a damp washcloth will help tremendously.

As the cat grooms himself he is depositing saliva on his fur, and it is the proteins in the saliva (as well as dander) that are causing the allergic reaction.

So a wet washcloth or petwipe used daily would be my first suggestion.

I can completely recommend Petal Cleanse/C as my sister is allergic to animals which also triggers her asthma.

When I'm visiting my parents' and my sister will be there, I beging Petal Cleansing them three weeks before hand (this is generally how long it takes to encapsulate the allergens) and continue for the whole time we are there (weekly treatments)

We found that it worked incredibly well!
