After my cats gave birth to their babies, I brought them inside the house so the babies would be safe. Now that all the babies are gone and the mama's have been fixed and are back outside, I started noticing fleas. They must have had them on them but because they are black cats I did not see them. Anyways, now that they are gone I noticed a flea problem in the house. Mostly it is in my daughter room and in my sonâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s room. Plus I just got attacked in the bathroom. I have been vacuuming almost daily and it seems to help for a couple of days but then they start attacking again. Is there anything I can put on the carpet that will work quickly and will be safe for my kids? If my husband finds out he will freak so I need to do something fast and discrete.

Why is your cat outdoor-only?

Here is what I used for fleas: http://www.onlynaturalpet.com/Only_N...y_p/999012.htm
You rub it into the carpet and leave it there awhile. Then vacuum. It kills fleas, eggs, larva, everything. This is why they attack every couple days: when you vacuum, you are getting alot of the fleas, but the eggs and such are still there, and they hatch and then you have a whole new round.
This stuff works better than anything, and its not a chemical. It sticks to the fleas and dries them out so they die. Kind of like how mean little boys put salt on a slug. So, they can't get immune to it or develop a resistance.
Zissou had a major flea problem and I used this in all the carpets and they were gone. I used it on her too. You must also treat all of the pets with a prescription flea treatment (over-the-counter ones can kill your pets).
Wash everything (blankets, bedding, etc) in HOT water a couple times a week, use the flea stuff, and then vacuum everywhere- the furniture, under the furniture, everywhere.

I would also recommend using those aerosol bombs which will get into every nook and cranny anything you try to do with powder can't ready, including furniture, bedding, etc.

I live in Rochester NY in a 2 bedroom apartment.
My mother used to be a breeder of Shitzu's and she has had her share of flea problems. Her Vet told her to buy plain old Borax from the store, sprinkle it on the carpets, let it sit for 30 to 45 minutes vacuum. Do this 2 times a week, she swears by it. Also, put a good flea collar in your vacuum cleaner bag or cup (if bagless) that way the fleas will not live in your vacuum. Remember the life cycle is a week so you are going to have to be consistent and what ever you do you are going to have to repeat it several times to get the little bugars out of your house once and for all. I don't have alot of money so I usually have inexpensive remedies.

A flea bath for kitty, and a good flea, egg, larva killer for the carpet. They lay eggs and hang out in your carpet when they're not on your pet.

Do NOT use over-the-counter flea shampoos for your kitty. Some cats have been known to die from these shampoos. As far as over-the-counter flea products for your carpets - they just really don't work very well and are generally a waste of good money.

Ya I disagree on the flea bath unless the vet says to and gives you a shampoo.

Go to the vet for flea meds for your cats. Imagine how bad they must be being outdoors. So medicate them too, and put a flea collar in your vacuum cleaner. DO NOT put a flea collar on the cat! Those are awful little things. Use Advantage, Revolution or Frontline from a vet. I would also recommend worming them also because many times if they have fleas they have worms also.

Thank you for all of your advise. I will try borax on the carpet to see if that helps. I will also give the kittens and mamas a bath to also help. So far we have had a really bad time with fleas and tick in Tennessee this year. I think it is because we had really warm weather so quickly. Plus we really did not have a warm winter also. Only one snow fall that lasted about two days and then one day of ice, that was it. Since I am originally from Ohio where we get snow from November until April, this is a little bit weird to me.
