This is going to sound really, really stupid, but what the heck? I sprayed some Dawn power dissolver in my oven to clean it. It did a remarkable job. I can't believe the amount of gunk that stuff removed. The problem is I can't get it out!! I've sprayed water in, I've soaked sponges and paper towels with clean water, I've wiped and I've wiped, but everytime I turn on the oven I still get that horrible smell of burning cleaner. Does anyone have any ideas? I've spent the better part of two hours over the course of a week trying to get this soapy stuff out of my oven. The more water I use the more sudsy it gets. The back does say it's ok to use in ovens. Any ideas, anyone?

Is your oven self cleaning? May be intense heat could burn away the soap. I'm not sure but starting with useing the cleaning cycle may help.

When i use my oven cleaner i usually leave the oven (empty) on until the smell has been 'burnt' out of it.

I know this seems an awful waste of resources but i cant think of any other way to do it

Just an idea, I have no idea how it will work- but is there some way you could steam the oven? Maybe turn it on low and put a pan of water in there
or use one of those steamers they sell at the stores. I hope you get rid of the smell soon!

That happened with us too. I didn't realise it was a self-cleaning oven until AFTER I sprayed cleaning spray in it. The cleaning spray just smeared all over the inside and the oven looked worse then it did before.

So I ran the self cleaner (which ours lasts 2 hours by the way...so don't run it right before dinner) and it got rid of most of the smear.

I will try the steaming and vinegar. Thanks! There is some kind of weird cloth seal around my oven, which I've never seen on another oven. I sniffed it and it smells like soap! I've been spraying water directly on it with pressure that that seems to be helping as well.

We have that one our GE range also. We have on our wood stove too. It must be some heat resistant seal???

I wouldn't add vinegar...couldn't that cause a chemical reaction? Or maybe that is ammonia and bleach? I would just rinse and wipe one more time, then cook with an empty oven to burn off the rest of the smell. Open a window or two!

Under the cats, mostly.
I used to use baking soda and vinegar to clean my oven. I never used to use a cleaner because I could never get it out of the oven. Lemons are fab things too. And SOOOO much cheaper
