Okay, so the semester's finally over, whew, but my one class was crazy!

One day last week she came in and said her cat had kittens. Apparently the mom cat was still a kitten herself. One of them had deformities in its back legs, so of course she decided that it shouldn't live... so she had her husband kill it. And described it in full detail. Like, that she heard it scream. (Instead of, oh, I dunno, taking it to the vet?) Then the next time she comes into class her other cat (also a kitten itself) has babies. And she didn't know it was pregnant????? So now she has like thirteen cats.
Yes, she let them outside on purpose because "she didn't know they could get pregnant that early" which is an excuse for a new cat owner, or someone who doesn't know better, but I know how many other cats she has

And then she says, only half-kidding if that much, "Anyone who takes a kitten gets an A"

Are you serious?????????????

Would you guys have walked out of class? I almost did. The professor in question has been reported to the chair for some other highly inappropriate things / comments she made in class, and he knows part of the story, but catcare isn't really part of her job, so he can't do much about this.

The terrible part is that some people thought it was funny?!?!??

Ew Wow. Very sore subject.
That makes me livid. How dare she!

Tripod was found as a kitten with one missing front leg, a front paw that is missing a toe, and one small and twisted back foot. He's a 3 legged cat with only one "normal" foot. It took 3 grown men to catch him. He is a wonderful loveable part of my family. He doesn't even know he's "different." I suppose she would have had him killed too.

Not only did she have him killed, but she did it in a horrible inhumane way.

Please feel free to print this out and show it to your professor.

I hope she gets in trouble too, but the thing she's probably going to get in trouble for is a "joke" she made by drawing red marker lines up her wrists and putting bandages on them and saying that she "told us she'd slit her wrists if our exams weren't graded". I'm not sure if she's actually got a mental problem, or is just a tasteless person.

Tripod- I know! When she first started off the story (before the but-I-kilt-it part) I had been going to talk to her after class and maybe adopt it myself (and not for an A, I have one anyway!) So I was already thinking about how much I would love the special baby, and then...

That IS tasteless, joke or not.

Being a teacher of any sort does not mean you get to say whatever you want. You need to be respectful of everyone in your class.

I know, I was appalled. My freshman year of high school, three students killed themselves. Nobody in my school ever joked about it at all, and if they did they went straight to the counselor who called their parents. The whole time she was talking about it, I was just thinking about the other students and how terrible it would be if anyone were thinking about it.
The chair of the department has talked to her about this, but I doubt she's going to change. A bunch of the tenured professors want her to get fired, though, and thats never a good thing.

You would have given him such a good home!

When I got home last night I kept thinking about that poor kitten and how thankful I am that I have Tripod.

Oh that breaks my heart that that little kitten could have had a normal life but wasn't given a chance.

I hate it when people thinks cats are expendable. What is WRONG with people?

Ack. I hope you do report her to Animal Control or the Human Society... maybe even one of those militant animal rights groups to harrass her. It makes me so angry when I hear about things like this. That poor little kitten.

I'll take two kittens if one of my professors gives me an A for something difficult like biochemical genetics.

Seriously though, she is wacko.
