Last night we went out with some friends and coming home, about 3 deer were along the road and one just *had* to pop out in front of us~well we couldnt avoid hitting it and ended up hitting her. But whats weird is this, she did some damage to the vehicle and we sat there for like 5-6 min looking at the damage and stuff, and she lay in the ditch the whole time, not moving, so we all thought of course, that she was dead. Today we went by there to see where we hit her at, and shes GONE! How in the world could that be? I mean I am sure it would of killed her, but just kinda odd that she was not anywhere to be found. Has this ever happened to anybody else? I hit a deer like 4 yrs ago and it crumpled my car up! And the deer died instantly. So I just wonder what happened? I felt bad for the poor thing.....hopefully she did crawl off and die, but do u think it would of just stunned her?? Ok-sorry to just ramble.

My friend's dad used to hit deer all the time when he drove from upstate NY to the PA mountains on a weekly basis. He even bought one of those deer whistles to repel the deer. He said that thing seemed to attract them!

Letsee, a mail box - yes...a horse - yes....deer - not yet (in Michigan its almost a right of passage).

I did have one leap over my car while I was driving home one night. I was so amazed that I didn't hit it! I had to pull over for 5 minutes to figure out what had just happened (and let out several "OMG! OMG OMG OMG!)

-LOL, yeah I would of done that too. Last summer my brother and his wife were travleing to see her parents and they hit one in her car and you know what that thing did?? It ended up landing in the backseat!! I think they both about flipped when they saw that. They did take lots of pics though and if I can figure out how to share them, I will.
Its something like on that movie Tommy Boy,lol. When they put the deer in the backseat....it was really weird!!

We had a deer hit us a couple months ago. Literally, we stopped the car because we saw the deer- we were totally stopped!!! He just ran right into my car and left a decent dent by the backseat. There was a lady here last year who hit a deer, which flew up and crashed on her roof. The antlers literally went right through her and she died. I try to keep my eyes open for eye shine and other telltale signs of deer. They are everywhere here.

I had a deer run into the side of my car a little over a year ago. Knocked my passenger side mirror off, but did not do any other damage. I have a Saturn and they have those dent resistant body panels. The deer just kept on running as if nothing ever happened

My sister in law hit a deer, and destroyed the front end of her SUV. The deer flew up over the vehicle, and kicked out the back window before it ran off. She said it must have been mad at her for hitting it!

I see quite a few deer while out driving, but thankfully never hit one! I did hit a mouse once (yes mouse, not moose.) It was running in circles in my lane, and there was no avoiding it due to the other traffic. I was really young at the time and felt pretty bad...poor little mousey. But something was wrong for it to run in circles like that!

I have always had a fear of hitting a deer myself, expecially at night, I won't hardly drive at night because of the fear. But, needless to say my husband did that about 3 weeks ago, he was running late to work and jumped in my car rather than taking his bike and hit a deer about a mile from our house. He said that there was 2 of them and they just came from out of no where. He said that it just jumped up and ran off, he looked for awhile but just gave up on finding it. Needless to say it did about $3500.00 worth of damage to my car. Just got my car back from repairs on Friday. Luckily he was not on his bike, he wouldn't have lived to tell about it!!

My dad has managed to hit one three times over the last 15 years. The last time he was really lucky b/c it bounched off the hood of the car, broke his radiotor I think which spilled all over the road so he had a hard time stopping. I've come close a few times near my parents. Near my new house I've only seen one once on the road. Yesterday though i was driving onto an on ramp, and some huge bird- I think it was turkey flew very low right in front of my car and I almost got it... yikes!

My husband hit a deer once and it was a fatal injury. When he got out of the car, it was alive but broken up and would have suffered for a while. He (mercifully) ended its life quickly, drove home and when he went back 1/2 hour later the deer was gone.

People will stop to pick up fresh "road-kill" in our area for the hide and meat. It is very probable that someone picked it up for that purpose. My husband was glad that someone took the deer - although a sad end to its life, its remains were not wasted.

And the damage to his car was $3500.

I haven't hit one *knocks on wood* yet. There are a lot around here and I see them a lot and have come very close a whole lot of times. Lee on the other hand has owned his truck for 3 years and hits one every years. The last one was so bad that it hit his rim and got rolled under and snatched the plastic lining from the wheel well and threw that and damaged the bed with that . She then popped back up against the bed of the truck and crumpled it so bad that you could see all the bracing in it. This was all at 2 in the afternoon!!

I hit a deer on I-79 south of Pittsburgh... scary!! It was dark so by the time I saw it it was too late. It crshed my hood and rolled up on my roof, landing just behind my head, missing my windshield, thankfully, and rolled off. The last thing I saw of it was flailing legs. I don't know if I killed it or not, but my parents dodn't see it when they drove by the spot 3 hours later.... You may have just stunned it like I did

Years ago we hit a bull elk near Golden Colorado.. Amazingly the he rolled up on the hood and rolled off. I had my ex husband go look for the elk. It was badly hurt so we traveled down to Golden and called the State Police, who then called the wildlife officials. I could not live with myself until i knew that elk was not suffering anymore. I felt awful about that. He just jumped out of nowhere into the car. We made sure the police found him, and the situation was under control.
