I'm just wondering how many poops a day are normal for most kittens? My kitten has health issues (giardia, and a virus) but even before she was taking meds, she was pooping 6, or more times a day. She is almost 4 1/2 months old, and has always pooped large amounts, adult size or more, each time. Could it be the food she eats? She is eating Iams multicat. Just wondering if this is normal because I have never seen a cat poop so much.

I would worry more about the consistency of the stool than the frequency. As long as they are firn I wouldn't be concerned.

I know that as small kittens mine pooped 5-6 times a day but at near seven months now they have levelled off quite a bit to maybe 2-3 times each.

The more frequently they eat the more often they will poop.

Mine are maybe 3-4 times a day, but they have food out all the time.

As long as they are firm and 'normal' I wouldn't worry too much, but assuming your cat is seeing a vet for the virus etc just ask your vet next time you are there

Thank you both for your replies. Yes she is under vet care. I will ask him next time I talk with him about it. Because of her health issues she has had soft stools for over a month. Six or more soft poopies a day is quit the smelly mess. Hopefully when she is 100% her stools will firm up, and it won't seem so bad. Thanks again.

My cat only poops once a day. Occasionally she will go twice, but when she goes she goes ALOT! I guess it just depends on the age of your cat and the type of food that you feed. As long as it is normal I wouldn't worry about it.

My cat gets fed twice a day, and he poops 1-2 times daily. Aside from age and possible health issues, feeding a higher grade of food over Iams will decrease the amount she goes, if you don't leave food out for her all day, that wil decrease the amount of times she goes.

I agree with higher end food helping... My canned raw girl goes twice or three times but they are very small ... the dry girl goes once but it is big

Thank you all for your replies. To answer some questions, no I have not changed her diet. The breeder fed and reccomended the Iams multicat, so I have kept her on that diet. The vet actaully said that it was a good diet too, but I have heard so many bad things about Iams that I was going to change her to Chicken Soup or something. Her food is left out all day, as sphynx tend to eat more because of their metabolism. She eats about a cup of dry a day, but seems to poo out that much everyday. Her weight was down because of the giardia, but she has since gained. I do not give her wet food (yet) because she has had the health issues which have caused the soft stools, and I've been afraid the wet food would make them even softer. I have held off on making the switch in foods also because of her problems with her tummy. I'm wondering if I should go ahead and start mixing the new food with the Iams, or if I should wait until she is better, any opinions on this?
