I am new here, came across the forum to have a place to talk about my cat and read about others. I have a calico cat, her name is Snickers and she looks just like a snickers bar. She's a sweetheart.

I'd like to see if anyone has heard of a cat scared of the dark? At night she will stay in the living room and just meow and meow until I call her and she will run into the bedroom and hop on the bed and purr and purr. Almost like she forgot or didnt know where we went.

Anyone else run into this?

Hi! I'm new here, too, and joined because we're fairly new owners of a cat. I never heard of a cat who is afraid of the dark. I thought cats can see more than we can at night?

Welcome to the site!
I don't know if they are really afraid of the dark but I think some cats feel they have been deserted. One of mine does this and as soon as I call , she will come running . It's almost like she says I was so lost! "

Thank you, I never actually thought about it that way. I rescued her from a shelter in CA and she is very much a lap cat, which is exactly what I wanted. She has a loud purr, almost like a little volkwagan motor, its so nice. She is a talker too

I look forward to meeting everyone and chatting about our cats.

Welcome to the site McKenzie and Snickers
We are so glad to have you.

My Dori will meow just like you are describing if I go into the office while she is sleeping in the living room. She wakes up and meows at the top of her lungs until I go and scoop her up. Calling her doesn't work, I have to actually get up and go get her.
I don't think it's a matter of being afraid of the dark, at least with her anyway, because she does this during the day as well as the night. If you would like, please feel free to create a thread about Snickers in the behavior forum. You might be suprised at the stories you get, and might even find someone else whose cat does the same thing as little Snickers

If you need any help finding your way around, please let myself or any other mentor know by sending us a private message. We will be glad to help in any way we can

Hi! That is so funny!!!!
I've never heard of a cat afraid of the dark!!! I'm just guessing, but maybe it's more of a seperation anxiety. Alot of pets get like that. When we 1st brought our LuckyGirl home a month ago, we were off work for like 4-5 days in a row...so she had our undivided attention. Then we went to work...till 3:30 mind you...not like we work 10 hours. And she wouldn't pay us any mind at all. Like she was giving us the silent treatment! She was all bent out of shape...being a wild kitten she craved affection, and then she had and then she didn't. She was teaching us a lesson! A valuble one too! Now we run right home to be with her!!!
Boy has she got us trained!!!

Hi there McKenzie
we're so happy to welcome you and Snickers to TCS. I'm sure you'll enjoy your stay with us - we're one great big family and you'll find loads of friends here. If I can help at all while you're finding your way around TCS just click on my username and send me a Personal Message - I'll do what I can to answer your questions

Could it be that little Snickers gets lonely and worries whether she has lost you. You both sound to be very close and she may just get worried - particularly as she is from a shelter and likely to have been abandoned. We all know that you wouldn't do that, but she may just like to keep tabs on you!
