I know this doesn't belong in this forum but I don't know where to post it, and a Mod can kindly move this to wherever it needs to go. I just want people to know about this and maybe someone can tell me who to send this to so something gets done. this is outrageous.

No Charges Over Campus Dog Killing

5-5-06 - Two students who killed a pit bull near the SISD Ag barn will not face criminal charges. School officials say the two have been disciplined for violating school rules, although they would not specify what rules were broken or how the teenagers were punished.

A witness says the dog was tied to a tree on Tuesday afternoon and then stabbed to death. The teens then dragged the dog's body into a nearby tree line.

It wasn't until 24 hours later that the school and police learned of the incident. An officer inspected the carcass along with a parent who called police. Later, Sherman PD decided not to pursue charges, because they believed the dog was killed in self-defense. The teens claim it was threatening livestock and had turned on the teens as they tried to scare it off.

An eyewitness has since come forward with a different story. The student signed a statement for the principal, although it's unclear whether he told his version to police.

The parent who called police and observed the body says it looks like the dog had been mutilated. It is possible that scavenger animals may have damaged the dog carcass after it was left in the woods.

This happened in my hometown at my former high school. My sister overheard one of the two kids who did this BRAG about it during class and mention he's done it before to a pig. Everyone seems to be very upset about it, especially how they will not be criminally charged. If anyone knows where I can turn this in to get some attention please let me know, this is wrong and these kids should get charged. Thankfully a witness stepped forward but that will only do so much.

There are just some really sick people out there. How people find entertainment from being cruel to animals I will never know. My heart is broken over another animal cruelty situation. I just can't bear to share. I just can't express the feilings I have from this. Deeply sad, angry, vengeful, violated. Some people make this world an awful place.

It breaks my heart the most when an innocent animal or child is harmed. They can't defend themselves and they TRUST everyone. It makes me sick that psychos take advantage of that to complete such awful deeds.

Why not encourage your sister to tell the police that she heard them brag about it?
People who are willing to do this to animals often grow up and become willing to do this to humans. Terrible.

The fact that they were carrying knives indicates to me that it certainly was not self defense!
I'm going to write a letter to the Sherman PD and the SPCA.

I would encourage your sister to first try & find as many other students who have overheard the killers' bragging and then write the school principal and c.c. the school board, the local FFA & 4-H club presidents as well as the SPCA, the ACO & the county supervisor for that district. Have her try to get as many signatures as she can first. Before she & the others mail their letter, they need to consider what reprecussions there might be, if any. For instance, is there any chance of retaliation?? What a sad, sad situation! I send {{{prayers & vibes}}} for any unfortunate animals, children, women, who cross paths with these demons.....

Good news! My sister (not the one who heard the boy) found the number for PETA and she called them and told them all about what happened. a DAY later PETA called the Sherman PD and this was released:

Sherman police originally believed students killed a dog at Sherman High School in self defense, but a more thourough investigation could lead to animal cruetly charges for at least one student. Lt. Bob Fair said the incident occured at the agricultural barn May 2 after school hours.

The original report said a pit bull was threatening the livestock and students, and one student took action. Fair said after speaking to several witnesses, the story was inconsistent. Further investigation conculded that the dog did not threaten the students or the livestock and at least one student stabbed the dog one time.

SPD will present their investigation of the 16-year-old student suspected to be connected to the case to the Grayson County District Attorney’s office.

Fair said he expects a decision from the DA by next week.

I'll give you updates on what happens! PETA emailed my sister once they spoke to the Sherman PD, I'll post what they said if I remember to ask her to see it. My sister who did hear what happened did get to tell police btw.

Although I'm not a big fan of PETA, I'm glad someone was able to get some action taken. Hopefully both students will be punished and get counseling. I shudder to think of what other cruelties these two will get into if they are not stopped now.
