Ok my 5mth old kitty, Amir has learned how to open my fridge and get food out of it
(yes hes a bengal) He sticks his paw under the door and breaks the seal. I just stood there and watched in disbelief when my son told me what he was doing. This lil guy is only 5mths old with all this strength
wonder what they are gonna be like when they are adults(i also have his littermate brother) Mazi just sits back and watches his brother get into stuff then he joins him till he hears me coming lol\\

So how can I stop him from getting in there? I dont want to come home and all my food is gone and have sick kitties running around
Amir is getting so bold he just jumped on top of the door(yes up by the ceiling) and just walked across the top of the door

Had to edit bc i also want to know how to keep them off the stove? They love counters and high things, but i just dont want them on the stove bc they might burn themselves.

Thanks

I would look into child safety latches for the fridge.

For the stove, there is a product that I've had some success with called SSScat which is an aerosol can with a motion detector on it. It will sound an alarm and a quick spray of air when the cat gets on the counter or stove area. It can sometimes be irritating because my husband forgets to turn it off and keeps setting it off himself.

I got it from a place on-line. I just did a quick search and noticed that Amazon was listing it.

Forgive me, I'm not laughing at you, I'm laughing with you. Amazing the things they can figure out to make our lives more difficult. LOL

Mine haven't figured out how to open the fridge yet, but the minute I open it, two of them make a mad dash to get into it.

How do you tell if an elephant's been in your refrigerator? LOL

I wouldn't necessarily worry about the stove a lot - because we had 4-5 cats a lot of years ago, and all of them, though they were up on the counters all the time, avoided the burners, until... along came Squeak, our totally nutso M. Coon girl with ragdoll instincts - had zero fear about anything (not brave, more like dumb), and one day jumped up and stepped right on one of them. We didn't even know she'd burnt herself until a day or two later, and then had to get vet treatment. She was fine after that, but then we brought home Shadow, her beautiful black and slinky friend. One day not long afterward, they were both in the kitchen and Shadow (still young, but a super athlete) jumped up between the burners, and Squeak banged into him and mrrrowed loudly - warning him away! To this day, and a whole bunch of other cats since then, no other cat has ever stepped on a burner at all. But... did I say she was dumb? Wish they were all like that!

I'm so relieved to know that Midir isn't the only cat who does this ... no matter where he is or what he's doing, if you open the fridge door, he comes running, he will go right for vacuum sealed packs of cheese and lunch meat that have not been opened yet (how he knows what's in there, I have no idea) and if you want to close the door, you have to pick him up and move him, because he's not leaving of his own free will. I have no idea why he still does this, after four years in our home, he has still never gotten a treat this way. But it's just one of those quirky behaviors that we have gotten used to. Now if he was opening the fridge like he opens the cupboards and every other door in the house ... we'd put a latch on it to. I find the magnetic latches do the trick for cupboard doors ... I can't imagine having a cat strong enough to break that seal on the fridge though
