Okay, the kittens will be 6 weeks old on Tuesday and we started food this past week. It was a little slow but they are all eating now and still nursing. Although it doesn't seem as if they nurse as long. She seems to be the one calling them to nurse. I am assuming that the more they eat the less they will nurse.

Now I have no clue as to how to start them litterbox training. I've got the box in there and they will go in and out but don't seem to have any interest. I have cornered off part of the family room on the hard floor because my carpet is taking a beating.

Any suggestions?

The weaning will happen on its own. Let Momma keep calling them to her to nurse...she knows what they need. As for not using the litterbox...what naughty little kittens! My last four litters (as a foster Mom) were all litter trained by 6 weeks.

I did have one litter that chose to pee in one corner, and poo in another. I responded by putting multiple litter boxes where ever they had established a "potty zone". You can just use those disposable aluminum pans...fill with clay litter. When someone poos on the floor, pick it up and put it in the pan, so they can see where it is supposed to go.

I have a rubbermain underbed box. It has a huge plastic lid. I used it to cover a big portion of the floor. Then I put their food and water on that. It worked to keep my floor clean, and establish an eating area where no one pooed or peed.

when they needed to go they would start "crying" I picked them up and placed them in the special kitten litter box. I would grab their paws and scratch the litter...so maybe they get the idea. i started this when they turned 4 weeks old. all are now 5 weeks and potty trained.
