Ashley doesn't really shed...she just has a weird type of fur, but at the same time, she gets really oily/greasy and has some SERIOUSLY flakey skin (I can even see the scales when I seperate the fur). It is REALLY bad and around this time of year, she always seems to start matting. UGH.

A few years ago, we had gotten a sample of some type of shampoo from the vet in a packet and it smelled like coconuts, but I cannot remember what it was called.

Anyway...I am looking for any shampoo recommendations that won't break my bank but also might help with this condition.

There is a old product out there that has been reformulated into a new product. I don't know if it will work for your cat's specific condition but it may be worth a try. It's called Groomers Goop. YOu can see it here: http://www.momsgoop.com/items/27/24/...Degreaser.aspx There is also a link to it on the Grooming Tips page of my website. When I communicated with the makers of Goop, they told me that Groomer's Goop has Vitamin E and lanolin included in this version of Goop, which could help your cat's flaky skin in theory. I've been using regular Goop for years on my persians that tend to get greasy coat. I Use it, rinse the cat and then follow up with his regular cat shampoo. MIght be worth a try.

It doesn't lather up like a shampoo. And it is pretty gooey. Apparently there is a groomer's goop shampoo also but I have not tried that and I don't believe it is widely available yet. When using the Goop or Groomers Goop in the can, most follow up with a conditioning cat shampoo. Don't be tempted by dog shampoo's as not everything that is ok for a dog is ok for a cat. And last, but not least, currently the only way to buy Groomer's Goop is online. However, you could go to any store, buy the regular goop and follow up with a conditioning shampoo.

Here's another link with information on using Groomer's Goop: http://www.goophandcleaner.com/groomers_v2.htm
