hello. how is everyone today? i was just wondering...i have a 4 month old male kitten and my room-mates cat is due to have her kittens in a month or so, my question is this: how will spike react to the other kittens in the house? how will she be with the spike and our other cat with her kittens? we plan on putting her in the bathroom with her kittens away from the other two, but i am worried about what will happen when the kittens get older. i know they will have to be supervised, but over all how will they be?
thanks for your advise.

Im glad to hear you're separating them at the beginning. Even the most friendliest cats (to each other) can become aggressive if one has kittens.

Once the kittens are a bit older and they are weaning, as far as your kitten goes, as long as everyone is healthy and tested, etc., I think it migiht work out fine. I had been given a cat and 3 of her kittens (about 6 weeks at the time), and my Rocky, who was about 4 months old at the time loved them. He'd play with them and visa versa, after all, he's also a kitten. Just be carefaul at the beginning to make sure they do get along, and to make sure it's okay with the queen.

If you have another adult cat in the house, you need to be a little more careful. Fiona (the foster) was okay with my Deja Vu (Rocky's mom) but sometimes,if the female thinks her kittens are in danger (valid or not) there could be trouble. So I'd REALLY watch them carefully and only let the two adults together supervised until the kittens are closet to 6 or 7 weeks, and even then, go by how the queen is acting.

Good luck!

I'd keep the 4 month old kitten away from mom till the babies eyes are open - she will be most protective of them up till that time.

If like most older "siblings", the older kitten will probably hiss a bit or pounce on them more or run away till he figures out what they are.

My adult cats were always scared of toddler kittens till they figured them to be other cats

I would also get the male kitten neutered before even thinking of putting him in the same room with mom and kittens. Keeping them apart is the best plan although neutering him is a better one.

That is what I was thinking. A 4 month old kitten is basically a teenager, and when those kittens are born there will be a lot of hormones in your household. (My neutered tomcat always gets a little crazy a few weeks after we have a new foster litter!) Better for Spike to experience that after he is neutered!

Hey spikesmom....I agree with everyone else...now is a good time to get your little spike neutered. If you need a low cost spay/neuter clinic, just look at the link below for clinics near you:
