Pat's had a "cold" for a couple of weeks now. He's got a stuffy head, runny nose, watery eyes, and he's sneezing. I've been trying to tell him that he has developed allergies, not a cold (my allergies have been going nuts for the last couple of weeks...about as long as he's had his cold). He's not willing to admit they're allergies...and he's not willing to stop whining about it.

So, I got to thinking...when Forest needs a pill I'm able to just stick it in his wet food. He eats really fast and never knows it's there. Pat eats really fast, too...do you think he'd notice if I slipped a Claritin into a meatball?

He might not notice, but his system might not either. Claritin works best on an empty stomach I think. I have mild allergies, so they don't affect me for a while yet.

Darn...I may give the Claritin a shot anyway. I figure Benadryl would make him sleepy and he might notice that. (But...he WOULD be asleep and unable to whine.)

Amen to that. You think they are on their deathbed when they get a cold. I do not unerstand way they are so stubborn and won't take a pill that would diminish their symptoms!!

Well I'll tell ya guys, Jerry is just getting over the flu, and he was really sick this time. Temp got to be 103, affecting both ends, upset tummy, terrible headache, etc. But do you think he'd take anything? NOOOOOOO!! I did have some leftover antibiotics from something else, and I did get him to take a few of them. You'd think Peptobismol was like asking him to drink poison!!

Pat's the same way. He always says that he doesn't like to take drugs. (Now, I know quite a bit about his past and I can tell you he didn't always feel that way. Drugs were A-OK with him at one point...I guess he must draw the line at the non-recreational type.
)

I picked up some Claritin on the way home and told him he had two options...he could either take one or I was going to slip it into his food. He made his usual objection...and I told him it was duly noted but to take it anyway.
He took it.

He says he's feeling a little better today, but not completely. (I'm sure that's true...he was still stuffed up and snoring last night.) I explained that it sometimes takes the allergy meds a few days to be fully effective. He doesn't think it's the medication that's helping. I told him too bad, he's taking another one again tonight.
Sometimes ya just gotta resort to tough love.

Thanks, Rigel! He'll be fine...as soon as the trees stop blooming here.
