The cats house, we just pay the mortgage..
I have just come home from the gym. While I was on the stepper, the guy next to me was, shall we say...soaked with sweat and obviously having a hard time. Fine, good on him for having a go at such a difficult machine.
However...he kept leaning forward and resting his arms on the bars and turning his head to the side and breathing incredably hard. Ok this is what I do too, but he had his head pointed at me the whole time, I could feel his breath on my arm and it wasn't a pleasant smell either.
I felt like saying 'Excuse me, but would you mind looking straight ahead or to the other side, where there is no machine because while I do enjoy a breeze in the gym, I don't want it to come from your mouth.'
I feel pretty dirty now, I just think some people lack social skills and makes me wonder whether it is ok to say to them that what they are doing is not 'acceptable'.

Eeek i can picture it as well Lauren

My gym changed to an all women only gym but i wouldn't have liked to feel or smell his breath on me

I was always ready for a good bath or shower anyway after my workout even though i never really worked up a sweat because it's the thought of all the sweaty hands on the bars

Well it's hard to judge exactly without having seen it, but I don't think you're overreacting. People like their personal space. You shouldn't have to feel somebody breathing on you.
Maybe it's the gym's fault for not having enough space between the machines. Was he ogling over you? I think he should have had some manners if that's the case.

I've had a shower but I still feel dirty! I do work up a sweat infact sometimes it concerns me how much I sweat lol

I just wonder where some people were while everyone else was learning manners?

He didn't seem to be, his eyes weren't on me all the time but its the fact that without gawping at him, I didn't know what he was looking at.
Our gym in generally great for space between machines but there are only 2 steppers and they are just side by side, still, there needn't be a personal space issue unless someone creates one.

I run into this ALL the time @ the gym too Lauren!

Except the other day I was there, and I was on the bikes and this guy next to me kept coughing on his machine and of course spit was coming out of his mouth too
- anyways - he got done (all sweaty and gross) and DIDNT EVEN CLEAN OFF THE MACHINE!

Needless to say, when he was gone, and I was finished, I went and cleaned off the machine for him - I think thats disguisting!

I hate people like that - they are so icky!

That's pretty gross. Fortunately, I have my own home gym and free weights as well, which gives me everything I need, so I don't have to go to a gym.

Yah that's gross!! I wonder why he couldn't have looked straight ahead, or to the side where there wasn't another person on a machine.

One time that happened to me..and the guy had the WORST breath..and his face wasn't even facing me but I could smell his breath anyway, it was soo bad!! Eeeeeeeeeew!

Yuck! I would have definitely said something to the gym. The one I go to is a family owned gym. They have ton's of machines and are always great about keeping it clean (as clean as it can get I guess). I guess we are lucky. I hear all kinds of horror stories. The thing I love the most about the gym though are the guys that make those noises when they lift. You know who they are.....HUGGHHHHH! ARRRGGHHH!
They are so funny to watch!

(As a side note - thanks for making me feel guilty for not going tonite.
I've been so good about going, but my daughter had a major "social disaster" tonite and I needed to be with her. I know it was more important, but I still feel bad about not going.

Don't feel bad about not going! Your daughters social disaster was much more important!
Mackenzie, not cleaning the machines just makes me sick. I once got on a treadmill and the computer screen bit was soaked. I just think its wrong.
I sweat badly so I carry a small hand towel around with me to wipe everything down and to sit on.
Who the heck wants to have to touch my sweat?!
You know what else annoys me in the gym, is the meatheads who drop the weights on the floor after they've used them, so that there is an enormous bang and everybody looks around to see how tough they are and how much they can lift.
We actually got a note in the newsletter about not dropping weights as 'no matter what anybody says, it does not look good and does not enhance your performance'
