I cant wait to go home and see him tomorrow - being in a wheel chair really can't be much fun for him.

I'm super sad cuz he was supposed to come out and spend the weekend with us at the campground!

Poor Kiddo! I hate to hear of things like that happening to young kids with their whole lives ahead of them!

Me too, he was training for cross country just recently - he had made the Varsity team this year - and now he's out of that.

My aunt said he's super sad/depressed about everything - he's usually such a happy go lucky kid - I hate to see him like this.

OMG
What a weird freak injury!! The poor kid...I can surely understand why he'd be depressed. He'll probably come out of it better than ever, though. Kids are so resilient...especially those that tend to be optimistic to start with.

I'll say some prayers for him and send some big healing vibes his way.

Aw, I'm so sorry that had to happen. My son broke his femur about 6 months ago so I know how hard it is. The hardest is when they are asking "why"? I just tell my son that it may be years before he finds out "why". Maybe someday he'll have extraordinary compassion for someone who's hurt. Maybe it saved him from something worse by keeping him tied down for a few months. I think his friends will be really important at this time - make sure he gets lots of peer interaction! Hugs! Kim.

I went over there right away on Friday when I got home - and he was sitting in his wheelchair, looking so depressed, as it was about 80* outside and he really wanted to go outside and play with his friends

My aunt took him off the pain meds, and put him on the muscle relaxors - and his attitude is a lot better - it was almost like those pain meds were depressants - I felt so horrible for him!

They did walk him down to the High School on Saturday night (they live 5 blocks away) so he could watch the kids walk thru Grand March for Prom - so at least he got to get out and see his friends for awhile, that really helped his attitude a lot!

Thanks so much for asking, that means a lot!

It's really good that he got to see his friends, but I feel so bad for him that he can't participate in anything with them...He will be out of commission for a while eh?

Yup.... he goes back to the DR in 2 weeks, so hopefully he will be able to get out a bit more in the wheelchair, but for now, he can only be on the couch or in his wheelchair so it heals properly.

According to my husband... the zoo
I am so sorry to hear about your cousins injury and situation
I don't know how I missed this thread earlier.

I'm glad to hear his spirits are up a bit. That's got to be a tough one for a kid - especially with summer coming up. Hopefully the Dr. will have good news for him when he goes back.

Poor guy, that's awful...15 is the age of being super active too! Hopefully everything will heal as quick and painless as possible.

Ugh, poor kid, just at the beginning of summer and everything...
I hope he heals fast and is able to salvage some of his summer!
