This was a sentiment that was inside a sympathy card I received from the cousin of someone who was very special to me, and who died a number of years ago. I have never forgotten it, and it has helped me though all the other losses in my life since then. It said,
Eventually we forget that they died.
And we begin to remember, instead, that they lived.
