Abi really goes into her carrier and comes out quite easily and quickly. But yesterday when we got to the vet there was NO WAY she was coming out of her carrier. not for a treat or a dangle toy or anything. Two us eventually had to turn it vertically and let gravity and gentle tugging get her out. I think she remembered the smells and the other animals and the pain. She was even drooling...poor baby.

But she finally let the vet examine her and she was cleared for her long car trip. BTW: the vet said a child's dose of benadryl would calm her and lessen any tendency to carsickness. Anyone else do this? I am going to test it before we hit the road.

I gave my kitty benadryl once at night b/c the vet suggested it for his stuffiness. It was the liquid and he hated the taste and started foaming at the mouth. Poor baby. I didn't give it to him again. Definitely test it out. Also find out from your vet EXACTLY how much to give. The amount for a 30 lb child would be different for a 10 pound cat.

I gave it to Fred once, and he ran around the house, foaming at the mouth and howling. It was horrible. I thought I had poisoned my poor kitty.

I haven't had to do that with any of our cats yet.

Perhaps there was a smell in there that frightened her? Such as a dog? It could just be a one time thing too. Perhaps there was an animal in there before her that left a scent she didn' like.

I don't remember if it was Benedryl, but just in case... I remember a lawsuit a few years back about a mother using infant Benedryl (or whatever medication it was - I'm really not sure) in place of a child's dose of regular. There is a huge difference in dosage. Please ask your vet to be very specific on exactly which Benedryl and exactly how much.
