Hey everyone,

My young cat gave birth this morning to 5 healthy kittens, even though she is less than a year her self (human year obv). I had to help deliver them as she woud not cut the cord, or stimulate breathing but all is fine. the thing is im not sure whether her teets are giving milk, they look ok, but there is no sign of any liquid, ive tried gently sqeezing them and i get nothing. im worried that the kittens are suckling but getting nothing, how can i tell???

Thanks, Chris

that is how Kitty was. it didnt look like anything was coming out but i never really thought about it. but the babies are fat and healthy so i assume that there was milk.
that's just my experiance but if you're worried please ask a vet.

If the kittens are nursing on Momma and then sleeping, then I wouldn't worry. It sounds like they are getting milk. If the babies begin crying, then I would worry.
The kittens will need to be weighed on a daily basis to make sure each one of them is gaining enough weight. Try to weigh them on the same time each day if possible.
Good luck with the babies, we would love to see pictures.

you will know as the kittens will cry all the time. they should not cry all the time if they are getting milk. weigh them everyday at the same time to make sure they are gaining weight. Or if you are still worried give you vet a call. they will be able to help you out. Good luck and keep us all updated.

Now would also be a good time to make sure to keep mom strictly indoors only and away from intact males until her kittens are weaned and she can be safely spayed. We want this to be her only litter.
