Hello again everyone! Thanks for your responses about my special need kid with the neurological problem. Now, I feel time is of the essence to have her spayed. But I am so worried that she will not be able to take the anesthesia.
Does anyone have info regarding how safe spaying is? I know, it is necessary. But, I am very concerned. I work in the pet grooming business at a nice shop and hear every day horror stories of animals dying just having teeth cleaned because of anesthesia. My Katie is so fragile, I am really worried. Any info, support would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Lisa & Katie

Lisarenee,

I think the best thing you can do for your cat and your peace of mind is to talk to your vet. He/she would be the one to determine if the kitty is too weak for surgery. Don't let rumors scare you. Every case and kitty is different. Let me know what happens.

Yes, every animal is different. Out of the millions a year that go under, the percent is small with problems. The vet may have some thoughts on this special kitty. For now, if the vet sais it might be too rough, see about taking your male in.

Our Traviss was almost one of those horror stories. It is my understanding that almost all vets use the same anesthtic. That is why this time we're taking him to a teaching hospital. Much more expensive, but they have many types of anesthetic to choose from, and can tailor make a drug mix to a specific animal. This is by far no garantee however. Their is risk involved in the simplest surgical procedure.
If you are not satisfyed with your vets answers to your questions, ask for a referral to a Veterinary teaching hospital or school. While students may do the actual work they are closely monitored by specialists in every field.
Good luck and best wishes to to you and yours!

Any vet can do a pre-surgery panel blood test that will check liver functions among other things. This is an indicator of how your cat will react to anasthetic. You can always ask for the blood panel before you make any decisions. Good luck.

Dear Lisarenee,
I really don't know too much about anesthesia and the welfare of your kitty...it sounds like she's been through quite a bit, I just wanted you to know that I am here reading these postings and praying for all and their babies...just know prayer is with you.
God Bless You & Yours
Always,
