Hello,

My girlfriend and I have an indoor pure-bred Siberian cat named Twilight. She just recently turned 1 year old. The problem is right on her lower stomach she seems to have a pouch with thin fluid, not extremely large but large enough for us to worry. Taking it to the vet is very costly for us plus the time we have to take off of work. I just want to know if this is normal or something we really should be concerned about. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
Daniel and Diana

Gosh, none of us here are really qualified to diagnose your cat, especially since we cannot see what you are explaining.

I'll probably be the first of many to recommend you take your cat to the vet for diagnosis and, if necessary, treatment. By putting off the vet visit you could well be causing a simple problem to develop into a much more serious and costly problem.

Do the right thing for your pet.

I agree with Yosemite, your kitty definatly needs to see a vet. The pouch could be anything- an abcess, a tumor- the only way to know is to have her evaluated by a vet. Please let us know what happens. Good luck

Was the cat recently spayed? I do agree with the others it is best to take the cat to the vet.

Is there a non profit vet in your area or someone who would let you do a payment plan?

At least take her in for a consultation and see what the vet says, the consult itself is not that expensive, at least then you will know if its something to worry about... and honestly, if it worried you enough to look for a forum to ask about it, its serious enough to go to the vet

Theses are my big boy Chester. Look at his lower stomach in these pictures. He has a rather large "pouch" there that hangs when he walks and rests on the floor when he sits. It is something common in animals that have been S/N. My Mothers cat Boo's hangs to the floor when she walks. Is this what your babies looks like? If it is, there has been discussion that this is where in the wild, they store food.

Both of my boys have that, too. But, to the original poster, if it is seemingly filled with fluid, and happened out of nowhere, you should definitely see your vet.

Thin fluid? How can you tell?
It could be anything, and only a vet can tell you. Does it hurt her when you touch it? Does she mess with it alot? Does it look like it could be a hernia? Is it along her spay scar?
Please at least call a vet and describe it to them. She probably needs to be seen, but maybe they could say what they'd like to test for.
Vets offices are hardly ever 9-5 anymore, so you probably won't have to take time off work.

Thanks for all the prompt responses.

I probably didn't do a very good job explaining what it was. It is extremely similar to the pictures posted. I probably misspoke when I said "thin fluid". She is spayed, and this puts my mind at ease a bit!

Thanks again,
Daniel and Diana

I thought that might be what it was, that is why I posted pictures. I am going to go delete the biggest one now that you have seen it. I wish I had a picture of my Mom's cat Boo... hers hangs to the floor!

Chester is the only one of my 4 that have it and all of mine have been fixed.

Opps, where is the delete button on there?
