He is a domestic tabby. As far as a litterbox....you can purchase a small aluminum pan (one will low edges) to put the litter in. He may still be a bit young to grasp the concept on his own...but you can certainly have it available. Avoid clumping litters as he can accidentally ingest the litter. I would either go with clay litter or feline pine. I would also start him off on wet canned kitten food versus dry food.

You will want a very low lipped litterbox, so that he can climb in and out. The litter needs to be non-clumping. I recently changed to Worlds Best Cat Litter, and it works great with the kittens and cats, but any litter as long as it is non-clumping will be fine.
I would get a premium dry kitten food as well as a kitten canned food. I, personally, use Hills A/D, as it is easy on the kittens sensitive tummies and it is easy to digest, and most of the kittens love the taste. In the beginning, you will need to put warm water to make it into a thin paste, or replace the water with KMR.
It may take him awhile to figure out how to eat, but offer him a taste a few times a day, eventually he will take to it.

Wow He is very tiny and CUTE!!
Congratulations on your new addition. I have no knowledge of cats other than cute and really cute.......lol
So I cant take any kind of guess to what breed he might be.
Youve gotten alot of great advice so far. The non clumping litter should work.
Good luck with your baby and post more pictures when you can.

Ok Im editing.......I just saw your other post saying you found him.
Your wonderful for taking him in and loving him.

Looks like a blue tabby semi-long hair to me. Possible persian in the background considering the more rounded face.

He may grow into something different - hard to tell by one picture. He is cute tho

Yeah, I'll go for the "Persian" idea too... his little nose is a bit shorter than most kittens', and he might end up with longish fur. I dunno about the "tabby" bit though; I can't see any stripes (but that could just be kitten fur hiding the cat's coloring)... looks closer to a sort of solid gray to me...

More pictures would help us tell you better!

(Hint, hint.)

I think she looks like a long hair dilute tortie.

Edited to say nevermind. Just realized you said it was a "he". I think only females can be torties. Are you sure it's a boy?

Hills A/D? I haven't heard of that before. Is it Science Diet? I have been feeding my older bunch Nutro Max kitten.

I weaned my kitten on the Hill's AD mixed with Natural Life all life stages (from Walmart-canned food) and then went to mix of NL and Nutro Max Cat kitten food (again, canned-chicken and some kind of fish, I think-have to get more this week
-bought this at Petco because WM was out of NL
) and have been mixing in a few pieces (first crushed, then whole) of Chicken Soup for the Cat Lover's soul-kitten-dry (from Pet Supplies Plus
) and I leave her with that between canned food feedings. Also gave her watered down KMR to lap up, when she gave up her bottle, and have given her plain water for the first time today-will see how it goes!

For her litter pan, I got a fairly large gladware container with short sides-maybe 2 inches or so, and then when she had to go with me, I could put the lid on it so it didn't get spilled in transit
. Now she uses a plastic shoe box (again, with a lid, so that whomever adopts her can take it with them.).

And I agree with the domestic medium hair, grey, tortie, some persian, opinions
!

Editing here-yes, it is Science Diet- you get it from your vet. It is for weaning kittens and recouperating adult cats. Just be careful how much you give- it is rich and can cause diarhea (I used it to get her started eating and get her interest).

Editing again- I do like the Max Cat canned kitten food better, but in case someone can't get it, the Natural Life is readily available and has A LOT better ingredients than most other easily found canned food.

Yeah, if it's a "he", then it probably isn't a tortie... I got interested when somebody mentioned the difference between tortoiseshell and calico, and read up on the genetics. There's only a very few cats out there that are male torties, and most of those are that way because of some weird genetic mutations that don't happen too often.

But I dunno... maybe the cat is a gray tabby and there is a tabby pattern and it's just very faint?

His coat looks almost "ticked"... like an Abyssinian's... you know, where the stripes are all broken up and the coat looks like a rabbit's. Except this kitten is gray; and Abyssinians are brown...

We need more pictures so we can decide better

Yep, go down to the Fur Pictures forum.

The URL that Photobucket gives you is exactly right: Just put the URL in between IMG tags, and the picture should post.

If it's too big, just resize (crop or shrink) it, upload again, and post. Or else, if that gets too tricky, post the URLs in between "URL" tags so it shows a link.

A tag is like this: [TAG]XXX[/TAG] where the "XXX" is the material that goes in between them.

It's in the "Cat lounge" I believe.

I thought I would show this cat, just because it was brought up, and it amazes me, This is the 1 and only male calico I have ever seen. It is one of my favorite breeds (GK45 will know! LOL)

He is the first male GRCH in ACFA in breed history ) breed: the Cornish Rex)
