Any tips on feeding a new kitten? She is 9 weeks old. I've had her since yesterday afternoon. I have not seen her eat anything yet... or at least she hasn't eaten while I am watching. I have given her hard food that I crushed some more just in case it was still too big, and I have given her two flavors of soft food.

She is not lacking in energy as this morning she is darting around exactly like you'd expect a kitten to do. My father says "Don't worry, she'll eat when she's hungry" but I worry anyway!

If you have a microwave, try nuking her food for a few seconds to warm it up. You can also put a little bit of garlic powder on the food, not to much to wet her appetite. Set the bowl in front of her and put a little bit of the wet food on her whiskers, once she licks her whiskers, she should go to the bowl of food.

I've not tried to garlic powder but I did try rubbing some food on her lips. She licks it off then goes away.

I would say as long as she's acting playful and energetic I wouldn't worry too much. If she doesn't eat for 48 hours though I would contact your veterinarian.

Some cats too won't eat if they know you are watching. I have a cat like that and no matter how hungry she is if she knows you're there she won't eat.

I hope thats it. When I try and rub food on her lips or gums she complains and my other cat hurries over to play mommy. Between the two of us the little one probably doesn't get a moment to herself!

She's eating! I guess maybe my dad was right... she got hungry enough and now she is eating. I sure am relieved!
