Hi,
I am new to this site.
I have a problem. I have been feeding a feral cat for about 4 months now. She had 4 kittens last week. Today she decided to move 2 of her kittens. She hadn't returned in 4 hours so we removed the remaining 2 one week old kittens and fed them kmr. We returned 4 hours later and the mother was back looking for her babies. So we returned her 2 babies. She immediately took one of them and jumped down the sewer. Is this normal. Will they be okay. The other problem is that it has been over 3 hours and she hasn't returned for the last kitten. Should we leave her there overnight or should we take her home. Please give me so advice, the kitten is only one week old.
Thanks,
Cindy

Cindy....please get the kitten back ASAP. Kittens can die very quickly if they aren't warm enough...they can also die from not being fed. I'm not sure why mom did not come back for the little one....perhaps she sensed he was sick or perhaps she was simply scared off. In either case, I do hope you brought the little kitten indoors and are providing him regular feedings. I would also contact some local TNR groups to see if you can borrow a humane trap. Mom may bring her kittens back when they are older and it will be the best time to trap mom and have her spayed so she doesn't have any more kittens.

Hi,
It has been 24 hours since I took the little kitten home. Tonight we went back to where the mother left her and she was frantically looking for her. I do not want to let her take her down into the sewer so I am going to care for her myself. She is doing great, eating well and sleeping for 2-3 hours at a time. I have been keeping her warm. I feel that she is better off living inside my house instead of inside a damp sewer. My husband is going to investigate the sewer tomorrow while I feed the mother and see if he can see them down there. I hope the remaining 3 kittens are doing well. She is 9 days old today and her eyes are almost completely opened.
Thanks for all your advice.
Thanks,
Cindy

Oh, I so hope you can find Mom and babies! If you can, that would be the best for everyone. Mom cat is the best care for any baby, so if she can be found and will take the kitten back... Good luck; and get yourself a trap for Momcat.

9 days... wow, you have yourself a really young kitten there. Go over to the pregnancy & kitten forum, there's lots of advice on bottle babies there.

Hello and Welcome to TCS.

Wow, those kittens are really young. Did you have any luck finding the other 3 kittens? and how is the one you already have doing now??? Do you have any names picked out?

Hi
and welcome to The Cat Site

You will love it here

I know how stressful this is. My cat Wowzer was a feral who was pregnant when she came to us. She had 4 kittens and when we found a home for one of them, she moved the other three. She eventually brought one back but we don't know what happened to the other two.

I'll keep my fingers crossed
for your feral and her kittens.

Glad you found us... see you around on the forums
