Spike is 3 weeks, and can go #1 all by himself (usually on me
), but pooping is another story...

His poop is toothpaste consistency, according to the vet it's the normal color, a greeny-mustardy. But he only goes when stimulated, and it's every other day, and ALOT. The vet didn't sound concerned, as long as he wasn't straining and was active.

But I was always under the impression they should go at least once a day. Anyone else experience this?

Mom was a rescue, malnourished among other things. She was so skinny, we didn't know she was pregnant, and low and behold, she had 1 kitten, Spike. She never produced milk, hence she rejected him. I've been raising him since hours after he was born, he's now 3 weeks, 2 days old. I've been stimulating him after feedings, and recently he has decided to go #1 on his own, but only goes #2 after stimulation. I use tepid water and my finger, as he is easily irritated by cotton balls, gauze, etc.

However, Since he turned 2 1/2 weeks old, he only goes poopy every other day, but at the exact same time, like clockwork. The vet said it was normal as long as it is the right consistency and color, and as long as he isn't straining, and is active, etc. He is completely normal, just poops every other day. I have always heard and read that kittens need to go at least once per day (My others have), so I was wondering if anyone else had kittens that didn't go everyday, as myself being the overprotective mom
, am constantly worried
.

I think it is normal. It is like us breastfeed babies poop after every feeding. Formula babies go 2x or 3x a day. I am sure it is the same with cats. He takes KMR and he does not strain to poop. Even if there is alot if he strains I would be concerned only.

My bottle fed kitten only went every THIRD day, and worried me to death, but my vet said every other day is fine. (She also didn't worry about mine, since she was doing fine). Good job on raising him since birth! Are you still bleary eyed from getting up every 2 -3 hours or have you adjusted
?

Thanks! I enjoy every minute of it. Yes, still exhausted...I hadn't done 2 AM feedings in 5 years..lol. But it is sooooo worth it. I was just as excited when Spike 1st walked, as I was when my daughter walked. My family thought I was nuts. I will also spare everyone my "Spike make a poopy" song...

Kittens are individuals and as such, not every one will be alike. I agree with your vet, so long as color and consistancy is good, there is no blood or mucous and no straining, eliminating only every other day may just be normal for this kitten.
