My Blue eyed snow bengal has just started weeing on our bed! She has never done this type of thing before but has now ruined 3 quilts. She is a year old, and has just come into season. Can anyone suggest a reason, or better still a cure for this. Other than locking her out the room. Is this a common thing?

Thanks

I would guess she's doing it because she's in heat. The easiest way to fix that is to spay her! It's also better for her health anyway.
If she's already fixed (maybe I missunderstood her coming into season) then I would suggest taking her to a vet to rule out a urinary tract infection.
Also check out the sticky at the top of this section for tips on dealing with innappropriate urination.

Yes cats will pee everywhere when coming into heat, and sometimes in-between heats. Its their form of marking the territory and attracting males. Spaying should definitely fix the problem.

Edit: I just looked at your site and you breed bengals? In that case, understand that females can be worse than males when it comes to spraying and peeing when in heat. They need facilities where you can keep them that are easily cleanable while they are in season. Also get Poise pads (the kind that are mats, not like the ones for periods) for people with urinary trouble. They are pads you place where you want to sit down and have a plastic underside so no mess is made. I use these in the favorite places in the house that Meeka likes to go.

And I just saw that you're a breeder, so you probably don't want to spay your girl! Sorry!
Then I guess you have to figure out if it's a health issue or behavioral.
Is she peeing or spraying?

She is definately peeing and not spraying. I am taking her to the vets for jabs next week so will get her checked out. I had no such problems with my other girl. I suppose i'll know better after the vet has checked her out. Thanks for the reply.

Not every female will show this behavior but it is not unusual and is quite common. Though I wouldn't rule out a health issue, most likely the answer is that she is marking her territory. Many breeders I talk to agree females tend to be just as bad as males, but don't have the strong stench to the urine.

when Java was in heat, she didn't spray, just peed everywhere. i'm sure that's what it is, unless she's showing signs of pain or blood.

Thanks everyone. I'll get her checked out anyway, but it sounds a season thing then. Much appreciated.
