My Cats kittens died

My cats kittens died by an very unfortunate accident. I got the shock of my lifetime when I came home from work to find 5 2 1/2 week old kittens dead. My dog had gotten into the closet and had taken the kittens lives. The mother is doing okay, but worried about her milk sacs. Do I need to take her to the vet or be patient and let nature take its course. She seems to be very uncomfortable. If anybody has any ideas I would appreciate them.

My only suggestion is to call around to your local shelters to see if any have 3-4 nursing orphans you could foster that need a new mamma cat.

I would take Arlyn's suggestion, or talk to your vet about getting her spayed now, it should help with her discomfort. I might call the vet anyway to see what you need to do to prevent mastitis (sp?), which is infection and inflamation of the mamary glands.
If you need a low cost clinic, let us know and someone should be able to give you a list of places to contact.
I'm so sorry for your loss, that must have been heartbreaking to come home to.

OH gosh im sorry. That is too sad, i dont know how i would deal with that, must be very hard. I really hope that momma and you are allright.

I also agree with what Arlyn said. The vet might also know of some orphaned kittens.

Oh no! Unfortunately I know what your feeling right now! Several yrs ago my cat Gracie had a litter of kittens in our bedroom closet and we left, and I thought the door got shut behind me, but it didnt! And we cam home to dead kittys from my dog. Let me tell ya, that was so hard!! My DH wanted to take the dog and get rid of him right then....it was awful!! Many hugs being sent to you! {{HUGS}}
