I need some inspiration. I am redoing my kitchen, as most of you know, and I have the idea to display pretty little colored bottles in the window. What I want to do is: This is a picture of one of my windows. Directly in front of the whole top half of the window (so the cats can't reach and so I can still open the window) I want a shelf, with all different sized squares, like one square, one rectangle, staggered, all sizes, with the bottles all tucked in there so the light from the window behind it shines through, and maybe a small plant tucked in here or there. It looks very pretty in my head. I would take the blinds down and it would be all shelf up there. Now, my main problem is, I am not allowed to hammer nails into the woodwork, so any ideas on how I can go about doing this? Hanging it from the ceiling is an option, there's just regular ceiling behind that top thing. And I don't have any of the necessary tools like saws to make it myself....Anyone who wants to have fun with photoshop is welcome to draw in the shelf and I'll tell you what looks closest to what I want.

Shannon, have you still not redone your kitchen yet?! I was wondering about the colours you finally chose to paint.
As for shelf building, I'm thinking those kind of shelves are really popular now - the individual squares like boxes without a backing. You could get a bunch and attach them together on a straight shelf maybe.

I have looked in a few stores but not everywhere, where do you think they might have them? I will probably end up doing the hanging from the ceiling one. Yeah, I'm dilly-dallying, I haven't the funds to do it all right now, but I am getting little things here and there, and once it gets a little warmer, I will paint. I got some samples and I think I'm going with more of a moss green or lighter green. I have these hydrangea accents (a clock, a teapot, a plate and a melt/tart warmer) I just got at Cracker Barrel this weekend, and they're really pretty to accent the room with, and I chose a green from out of those that i will use. I have an old small ladder I will hang from the ceiling with some type of vine with delicate flowers, and I have some other ideas....it's coming along slowly!

Not being able to pound into wood is going to be a problem as the only thing I can think of is a "shelf" were the bottom could be a board and you could screw cup hooks into the top near the end of the board and screw cup hooks into the ceiling and hang by a fine linked metal chain (all this stuff you could get at home depot. You would end up having 4 hooks in ceiling and in the board. I might use those plastic anchors when you screw into ceiling for more support. I would also have chain cut with a bit extra so the height could be adjustable.
