i dont know how long you should let her sit, i kept saying , if she hasnt had them by monday, then by friday, then by monday again, but i just let her be, i kept leaving at night and eventually she had them. From what ive noticed they seem to have their kittens at night.

If she has them at night, the good thing is that she'll be confined to her nesting area. The only thing I worry about with her having them at night is that if anything were to happen, I wouldn't be there to help. I read somewhere though that you should set your alarm and check in on her occassionally through the night. My husband would just LOVE that!

I set my alarm lastnight so i would get up to check on Sponge. I dont wake up to the alarm very often so my husband woke me up when it went off. I plan on doing the same thing tonight. He doesnt mind b/c he knows its not going to last long. I had also let him know that I could always sleep on the couch if he did mind. LOL

When my Tinkerbelle was expecting, I set the alarm every night...the problem was..I was so excited/anxious, I was doing this two weeks too early! The sleep deprevation and agonising wait drove me nuts! She had them mid-afternoon in the end, within 2 hours of labour starting!

Its so unpredictable!

She now runs away when she sees me holding anything resembling a themometer lol

I said that too, but thankfull it was dark at 9 at that time ( now its not) and she had them in the evening. I was worried she would have a problem and i wouldent know.

Trust me you will know, even if she DOSENT make noise, the kittens do. They mew and mow and cry loudly., so you will probably wake up hehe.

I hope she has them soon for you. Remember going to the vet would be stressful and does she look like shes in pain? I mean if shes not having a problem i would hold off on the vet. You dont know want to stress her out more then you need to.

My opinion would be, as long as shes eating and drinking, not acting like shes in obvious distress. like laying around-lethargic, pitiful mewing, weak sounds ect. Then i would worry. But if shes not acting sick i would wait a bit longer. Course you could call the vet and see if they want you to bring her in.

That's funny!

For anyone who has had experience with a litter -- did you have to help momma along in any way? Or did she do everything ok on her own? I mean, I imagine Jada will figure it all out but should I prepared in case she doesn't know what to do as she's delivering them? For example, I read somewhere that you might have to assist in cutting the umbilical cord? How would I even do that?

Momof3Cats&Kids - luckily I didnt have to intervene and I got the impression mum cat didnt want to be interferred with. All she wanted was a bit of verbal reassurance and a pat on the head at times.

I can rememeber the placentas still being in tact to the umbilical cord 20 minutes after the birth of two of the kittens and was starting to panic (phoned the vet and bombarded the forum for help) and was thinking I would have to cut the cords. As the vet and everyone else suggested, it was a case of letting mum do her thing in her own time.

She definately doesn't act sickly and isn't mewing weaking or anything. She's sleeping a lot but when she is awake she's quite alert.

I know I'm asking tons of questions here........ and I have anothero one. LOL Is it ok for her to be jumping from high places. I cringe everytime I see her jump down off the cat tree or a table or chair. She'll jump from about 4 feet high. Is this safe?

i didnt have to do anything. in fact as excited as i was, i was afraid to touch them. After a while when she took her break ( between kittens 1-4 and 5-7) i took each baby and dried it off better and changed the blankets under tazzie. So that she was clean. But she was a mess, full of birthing goo and lots of blood, i didnt think there would be so much blood. so be ready for a big mess! And you will have to clean that up as soon as you can. You dont want your babies laying in it and getting cold.

I bet setting your alarm will do no good. She will have them in between and you will miss it all and everything will go ok

Ewww! I'm really not looking forward to the goo and blood part. That's another good reason for me to keep her confined in her area. I would hate for her to have them under one of our beds on my couch or something. Yuck!

Good news -- she came out from behind my bed after her nap and I've moved her into the bathroom (nesting area). I'm going to leave her there now indefinately.

When we had our kittens, it was the kittens mewing that woke me. Momma just went into a room where the dog and other cats couldn't really get to her and just had them there. She was totally silent. She had four before I got to her, and I'm a pretty light sleeper, so I think she had them fairly quickly. The only help I had to do was that number 6 & 7 came really close together, and I had to help number 6 out of his sack. I tried to move her in the middle of everything, and it wasn't a real good idea. I moved them the next day, and she liked where I moved them.

I think if she couldent do it, she wouldent. Taz's litter box was origionally in the kitchen and she made it over the 4 ft gate into the kitchen, Till i moved her box into my closet for her, so it was closer. I highly doubt you can stop her from jumping on or off things, less you move all surfaces out of your house hehe
