Does anyone else here take Lexapro or know anyone that takes it? I had to start taking it after my dad passed away, and it really doesnt have any side effects and I really think its helping me, but I have noticed a weight gain and I am quite sure this is contirbuted to the med. So I was just wondering if anyone else experinced this?

I was on it for a while. How long have you been taking it?

I didn't notice weight gain when I was on it but I did notice a decrease of other impulses. I might have gained a few pounds but I was fluctuating anyway.

I hope it's helping you!

-Thanks! I have been on it since umm, November of '04...and I didnt really notice the weight gain until about last fall/winter, and it seems to be getting worse. I have thought about going off of it, but feel it really is doing me some good, so....

I took it for two years. It helped me immensely and I had little to no side effects, but I got to the point where it wasn't helping me anymore and my doctor recommended I try something else for awhile. We still haven't found something that works as well.

Apparently that can happen with anti-depressants. You take them for awhile, and then you build up a tolerance, and the only option is to increase the dose or try something else until it poops out on you, then go back to what you were on before for awhile, and so on and so forth.

I'll be on anti-depressants for the rest of my life, most likely, so I guess it's a routine I'll have to get used to.

Anyway, so Lexapro = good. (At least in my case.)

I was on it for most of my freshman year of college (yeah, when you realize you have no choice but to switch out of the major that was the ONLY thing you ever wanted to do, you're not gonna be in the best of moods...)... anyhow, I have an extremely high matabolism (to the point where I MUST eat before I go to bed at night or I'm sick in the morning) so I definitely didn't notice any weight gain.... the only side effect I had was occasional nausea, so I switched what time of the day I took it...

A few years ago, I went on AD's to control my extreme anxiety, I was getting blazing mad at everything, started with effexxor and that made me go in the completely opposite direction, I started crying at everything so the doc switched me to Zoloft... it helped me ALOT and I was only on it for around 6 months and then I took myself off, I know you're not supposed to do that but
I don't think I was on them long enough to gain weight, but I swear that it permanently altered the chemical make-up of my brain
I used to be one of those type-A personalities that had to have control of everything and I stressed and worried about stuff that I couldn't control- since I was on the meds and went off, I think I'm the most easy-going person ever
Either that or I realized how nice it was not to be freaked out all the time

oh and I wanted to add, my aunt and Ma have had lots of luck with Wellbutrin
