I just finished watching that video and I am just bawling.
I don't even have sound on my comp right now but the images are so strong.

IT reminded me of when I had to put Hitomi to sleep and the morning Yuki died. It reminds me of how selfish I am for having pets that are not spayed. As soon as I get my student loan in September, I am getting Mittens spayed or my mom might lend me the money to do it sooner. I feel very low right now. I feel sick. I can't believe people can work in that environment of death everyday.

And looking at thoes eyes in the cages. And dogs and cats
on the table.

Hello everybody,

I just registered for this forum and glad I found it. My neighbor has let one of her cats continue to breed, always saying she really needs to have her fixed blah blah blah. Anyway, the kitty is very sweet, she stashed her three kittens under our BBQ pit, so my husband made a cage and we kept all of them for 10 days. Yesterday I took the kittens to a local vet who already found homes and I took the mother to another vet and had her spayed. Here's my pickle: What in the world do I say to the neighbor when she sees the shaved belly and the scar? I don't think I can keep the poor cat in a cage until her hair grows out... or can I
Any thoughts? Any good white lies out there? I mean afterall, I have to live next to these neighbors. We just wanted to stop at least some of the madness... Thanks!

That was the first time I had ever seen that video too. I'm just.. in tears, and shocked. I guess I didn't really look at the numbers like that. All of our animals are fixed, and were either strays, or adopted from a shelter. I just don't understand how anyone could not fix their pet. That video.. just.. *shudders* goodness. That was the first and last time I will watch it.

Meldrape...good for you to care for this cat. Make sure you get her spayed.

TNR- she got her spayed.

Yay! She must know you'll take care of her better than they did. I'm glad it was so easy for the vet to find homes for her kittens too.

Your neighbor is probably going to notice that her cat is missing. What will you say? Or maybe she really doesn't care in which case even better that she likes your house better. Are you going to bring her inside?

...uhh that was the whole point of her question, she did get her spayed and wanted to know what to do when the neighbors find out.

Ok...I see I did not read the thread in it's entirety....good that she got spayed. Oftentimes if an owner isn't caring enough to get the cat fixed themselves...they really don't notice when the cat returns back and is fixed.

only if I had a little bit of money I could open my own shelter. no kill shelter.
only if all of us on thecatsite could live in one place we could have put all
of our money together and build a big animal shelter and put all the animals who dont have a home and give them a second chace.
no kill shelter. then no animal would have to breed and find a loving home but that will never happen.

That's so sad! I knew what the situation was, but visual images make it so much worse.

Don't forget, folks, that spay/neuter is important for more than just cats and dogs! Rabbits are turned into shelters and have accidental litters all the time, and some shelters still PTS rabbits immediately! They don't even try to find homes for them. Plus rabbits need to be spayed/neutered for behavioral and health reasons due to spraying and the very high rate of uterine cancer.

As long as the vet is experienced with rabbits, spay/neuter is very safe. So many people don't even realize this is an option or that it could correct the behavorial problems that they often dump their rabbits for!

Wow...that's a really amazing video...really makes you think more. Thankfully, all my animals are altered, or will be when they're the appropriate age.

Completely agreed. I didn't realize how rabbits were such a forgotten little animal until I found my little Flower. She was so malnourished, and so miserable...so much so that now that she has a nice, warm, dry home, she's one of the happiest, cleanest, most thankful animals I've ever had! I still can't believe someone would forget about her, in looking at how beautiful and wonderful she is. It's unbelievable how many people in this world just don't think...or care.

I just found this thread through a link in another one. I think this is a great reminder that needs to be brought up every once in a while. What a heartbreaking video. It put me in tears.
