Hi there everyone, new member here

The story about above is basically i stayed at a friends for a few nights who had 2 tomcats. she has spoilt them alot though they are lovely, and had the place a bit stinky as they had just started to spray, being about 8 years old and un neutered, it had been a recent problem and she has since had them operated on ( rather them than me :p)

the 2 nights i was there i left my clothes on a sideboard as there wasnt wardrobe space and either they sprayed or laid on my clothes to sleep as i realised 2 days later wearing them the same clothes again they had a strong smell.

Now my question is these being dry clean only, will the smell be removed after a dry clean or two, or do i need to get rid of them, as they were pretty expensive id rather not!

Thanks for the help guys, and im still v much a cat lover

strong odor as in pee or like a dogs smell? if its not pee, then you can use a fabric refresher like Febreeze.

Hey there and thanks for the replies

I couldnt use bleach on them as they are quite delicate, its been a couple of weeks also since it happened as i was considering just throwing them out, as ive got a real thing about my clothes being clean ( should have thought about that earlier but i didnt know about cats spraying on clothes )

They smell of the cat spray yeah, as the cats had sprayed the living room rug and it smells similiar, sharp and strong, though not as strong as on the rug. so maybe they just slept on the clothes

Will zero odour and oxyclean be ok to wash dry clean only clothes? thanks again

The other thing to say is the guy at my dry cleaners was not optimistic on the phone about removing spray as he said the pheromones etc are very hard to remove and while it may smell ok when hung up, body heat when worn opens up the fibres and the pheromones etc trapped in them.

Im very OCD about the cleanliness of my clothes, so may have to thrown them out, but they cost about £500 in total :S

Due to the OCD im also doubtful of other things that i wore that dont smell but because i had them on that weekend may have come into contact so im thinking of throwing out half my clothes as it's causing me a great deal of anxiety!

So it's got a little out of hand!

I am not sure it is ok to use, but I did on a shirt and it was great. My body heat did nothing. I think the zero odor did it because the black light did not detect it on the shirt like it did before the 2 washings.

what material are the clothes made from ? Most american clothes say dry clean only, but are pretty safe to wash, it's just a manufaturer's insurance really. And dry clean gets really expensive and it doesn't actually "clean" the clothes.

If you let me know the kind of material, I may be able to help. Do you have an american or european washing machine ? (american machines are top loading and have only 3 programs, european machines are front loading and have about 10-20 different programs)

Im actually from the uk so have a euro wash machine, they are from a company called Reiss dont know if it's over there yet? Im not sure their material i will look tonight though!

I have to take fluoxetine for OCD and this event has me so pre-occupied im considering throwing out all my clothes and starting again! so yeah just a little out of hand

I cant smell spray on half the clothes i wore of the weekend but still feel like these need getting rid of, these i have washed a couple of times, would a black light show up spray at that point after several washes?

I have been told ive gone wayyyy OTT with my anxiety over this, so feel free to tell me again. To replace the clothes or throw them away would be $1000 down the drain

I am in the UK and I do know Reiss, they are german. There is a good chance that they contain wool then. So probably only washable on the wool-wash cycle with Woolite (special washing stuff for delicate clothes), but if you are gonna throw them out anyway, I would give that a try first. It's either they survive, or not, but if u gonna throw them anyway, there is no harm done
