Steve thinks I am nuts...but I think the above link is PERFECT for my queens to keep their babies in. the inside of the hutch has two compartments one big enough for a small litter box. and the bigger one for the babies and mom to rest comfortably of course. the smaller side, has a "lip" so that little babies not old enough cant get into that compartment and than I could keep the door open for mom. the top also opens for mom.

Steve thinks i am batty but i like it, and I am getting three for my bday lol

I kind of like it...but I wonder if you could make it yourself cheaper? I do love the idea that you could easily sanitize between litters, and you would be able to keep several queens separate while they have newborns.

I just use 2 large dog crates wired together...that way there are 2 openings. There are also shelves inside, so early in the process the bottom door is open, and Mom can pop in and out. Later, I can lock the kittens in, but Mom can come and go from the top door.

But the wooden side of the rabbit hutch is nice for kitty privacy. Have you seen them at the store, or just on-line??!

nope i checked them out at the store the otherday while i was there. actually i saw them there vs online. they are very nice. and look easy to assemble. I have priced making my own and to get the same set up..it woyuldnt be Much less (we would have to buy tools we dont have many) so all in all it would work out nice. I love the look and feel feels good and sturdy and not cheap at all. nicely set up and just the perfect sizes for everything. It will also keep our dogs out from snooping. I dont fully trust them with baby babies. Not because i think they would purposely do anything. But dogs are dogs. steve still giggles at me but he thought about it and said its brillant..lol

It looks like it would be a great birthing area, I use the zippy cages, that have the zipping divider in the middle, it has the same effect, the Mom and babies on one side, and the litter area on the other side. I like it, because I can take it down or set it up on my own, very easy, and just throw it in the wash between litters. As well, the way the zippers work, it still allows the queens to come and go as they please.

I would love to know what you think of it, once you use it, and what the Moms think of it.

I can imagine you are missing them!! They will get lots of pampering when they get home, I bet!!

Here is a link to the cages we use. We got them for showing, and they just turned out to work out well with the birthing and the first few weeks.
Something else that would probably be so easy to make, but who has the time.

You are so right, your girls will make sure they let you know if it is up to their standards.
If not, they have amazing talents at opening drawers all by themselves.

I would love to see the zippy ones too, they do sound like a great idea especially with the cleanliness factor

I guess I forgot the link.

They have them where they can be divided or not, and there is also another kind they have called the travel cage, which looked also like it would be good for birthing, but I really like the dividing area for the litter box.
