Hi everyone, I just joined a few minutes ago. I have been looking for a place to ask some questions about my pregnant cat. I came across this site and everyone looked so friendly that I just had to join. lol I have a cat that is just 10 months old that is pregnant. I did not know she could get pregnant so young. I was planning on getting her spayed when she got to be 12 months old. Anyways, I screwed up and now i'm gonna have kittens to take care of and find a good home for. My questions is I am not sure just how far along my cat is. She is showing big time and her belly is really tight. The last couple of days she has been staying away from everyone. When I got in the room she is staying in and try to pet her as long as i am petting her head she just does this little meow but if i touch her belly she wraps her front legs around my arm. Its like she doesn't want her belly touched. I'm not sure if she is getting ready to have them very very soon or if its still going to be a week or two. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you Thank you in advance.

She doesnt have any discharge yet and when you feel her no milk comes out. I have heard though that first time moms dont always leak milk before she has the babies. She is really big and her teets are huge but nothing coming out yet. I will try to get a pic of her on here in just a minute if i can figure out how to do it. lol

That sounds familiar. Sometimes they want you to rub their belly, sometimes they don't.

Gizzy was a lot like that in the last 2 weeks of her pregnancy. She spent a lot of time rolling on her back and spreading all fours like she wanted to be petted but then she'd grab you with her front paws if you touched her tummy.

Your "queen" kitty is just uncomfortable. She is late term and carrying a whole LOT of kitties! She's tired and she's sick of it! lol

Now is the time to treat her to some special things. Scratch her ears and neck, not her tummy. Give her some KMR (it is SO good for pregnant and lactating moms!...wish I knew that 2 weeks ago!), set up a place or two in the home where she can nest (warm, quiet, private), make sure she has plenty of food and fresh water. Don't let her outside!

Oh, no i have not been letting her outside for about the last week. Lastnight about 3am I was letting my dog outside and she ran out. I was outside while it was storming trying to get her back inside again. I went to take her picture and she is gone again. So its going to be a few more minutes. I have to go hunt for her. I guess she went and found a new hiding place. When I went in to check on her about an hour or so ago i layed down on the floor with her and scratched her neck. she seemed to enjoy that. Does it sounds like she may be having them real soon or still got a while to wait? I read on a website that said to take there temp and if its under 100 F then they will go into labor within the next 24-48 hours. I tried to take her temp but she hated it so i didnt hold her down or anything to do it. I dont want to make her more miserable than she already is. Thanks for all your help. Hopefully i will be back in a few minutes with some pics. Thank you again!

Don't worry too much about her "escaping"...she will come back where she knows the food and warm place is. Gizzy tried escaping into the cellar for a while and I freaked out cause I thought she would try to nest under the house. But a few minutes later she would come right back upstairs because the cellar was too cold and damp and there was no food down there.

I would just do like you're doing already...discourage her from going out, set up some warm, dark and quiet nest areas in your house where no other animals or humans come in much contact with. Put bowls of food and fresh water near the nesting areas. Encourage her to lay down in them. Oh, give her some KMR!!! It costs about $6 a can at your local vet but it is so full of nutrition for moms and kittens (it's sort of like pre-natal vitamins). I didn't do this for Gizzy when she was pregnant but now I wish I had done so. I fed her KMR this last 3 days and it has done so much to boost her health and energy and the kittens actually show a difference as a result of it. So I am going to continue Gizzy on KMR for about 2 more weeks.

It sounds like your kitty is nearing the end. She sounds exactly like Gizzy was the last week or 2 before she gave birth. Laying around on her back, rolling back and forth, sleeping a lot?? Does she make that low growling noise in her throat, sort of like a purr, but more like a groan? That is the "language" of a new mom, Gizzy did that her last week or 2 of pregnancy and then "talked" the same way to her newborns.

You will know when she's in labor because she will start to leak out a bunch of "show" from her vagina. It's gunky and gross looking (like with any laboring mom). She'll get restless and probably do a lot of meowing at you. If you're around when that happens, just put her in her nest and talk sweet to her and scratch her head. Make sure she stays in her nest and just keeping talking sweet to her. Don't interfere, just let her do the work and sit back quietly and keep an eye on her.

She is sounding exactly like how Gizzy acted just a week or 2 before giving birth!

She isnt rolling around on her back. She just wants to lay around and not be bothered except for a pet here and there. I sure hope she doesnt go on for another week or two. She is a very small cat. She wasnt taken care of like she should have been when she was real small. She had a rough start in life. She is back where she has been hiding. She is staying in the kids' playroom (they play in the living room more than in there). She sleeps under my daughters play swing for her babies. I took some pictures of her. I will try to figure out how to put them on here.

They also sell KMR at Petsmart and I think also at Walmart it would be cheaper than going through the vets office.

Regarding posting pictures, one of the members on here told me to get photobucket.com. It's free..yay! Otherwise I never knew you could post your own personal pics on websites until that tip about photobucket.com. (I had dialup until just a few weeks ago so I could never do something like photobucket. I got comcast a few weeks ago and have just started learning how much more you can do with pictures and things with high speed)

Make sure you copy and paste the IMG option when posting here, but first, edit the photobucket pic and resize it to 25% (I'm still trying to get the hang of that).

Regarding your mom, the way she just lays around is a good sign that she is pre-labor or getting close. Is she really big? Does she look like she's carrying a load and walking with a waddle? That is how Gizzy looked about 1 or 2 weeks before she had her kittens. She was also very young and small which made her belly look like the mother ship

Oh ok well they have it on the petsmart website for 3.99 for an 8oz can and 5.99 for a 12.5oz can. It is also the same price at our local petsmart. I haven't checked my local walmart yet however they do have it on the walmart website for 5.64 for a 13oz can Ready to feed. Petsmart also has the powder so but I would think the liquid would be easier.

Yes, she is very big! She is a very small cat to begin with. Her belly is sticking out on both sides quiet a ways. She is also very young. Only 10 months old. I went in where she is at a few minutes ago and was petting her and she got up and ran away from me. She went and ate just a little bit and then ran back to her hiding spot again. Normally she will lay around on the couch but the last few days she wants to hide and only come out once in a while, thats why i am wondering if she is getting really close. I am wanting to be with her when she has the babies, thats why i am so concerned about her having them. Its her first litter so i dont know if anything will go wrong. I have done a lot of reading and research on when the time comes for her to have them. I dont plan on sitting right next to her side or anything when she has them but i want to stay across the room or just check on her every few minutes. do you know why she doesnt want her belly touched? most cats (so i thought) loved there belly rubbed. She did before she got pregnant anyways.

my cat winter had her first litter when she was 9 mo. old. i know she did not want anyone around but being able to check on her every few minutes will be a good idea as I had to help her with her last kitten. she had 7 kittens and she was very overwhelmed. I had to clean it and take care of the placenta. You should do some reasearch in that area if you have not already. I am sure she will be fine. how long as she been nesting from what I know they usually nest 1-2 weeks before giving birth. winter should have her babies this week.

I noticed on last Thursday that she was walking around from room to room. She would go in a room and just kinda look around a little and then go out and into a different room. I didnt really think much of it at the time. Since about Saturday she has been hiding out a lot. Its just not like her at all to hide like this. If you set your hand on her belly you can feel the babies move. It kinda makes me miss being pregnant and feeling my baby move. LOL I hope she will change and start letting me touch her belly again before she has them. Is Winter still letting you touch her belly?I sure hope Sponge doesnt have 7 babies. I will go crazy with 3 dogs, 2 adult cats, 7 babies, 3 kids, and a husband!!!!LOL
I have been reading about how to help get the kitten out if she was to end up needing help and also about when to call the vet if something happens and etc. I still plan on reading some more. I have NEVER done this before. The couple of cats I have had before was fixed when I got them.
