Do cats get jealous?

I am just wondering if cats get jealous over a new kitten or a new cat? Any one has any experiences? Thanks for the help.

Yes, cats can get jealous. One thing you can do is give your first cat more attention so that it will know that the other is not there to replace it. Unfortunately, that is just a tip I have seen a lot, as I only have one cat.

Yes, my older rexes were always a little jealous for "lap space" of younger ones. Funny thing was I'd have one on my lap and the older one would come up and delibrately sit up higher - nearer my neck. This was fine If I was laying down, but not so fine if I was sitting....lol

My two are acting quite jealous since i started fostering a mom and her kittens. They don't understand why i open cans of wet food that aren't for them and spend so much time in the other room. Whenever i am out of the foster room i try and give extra attention, treats and cuddles. I know they are feeling left out when i have both laying on me trying to get as close as possible (that's about 30lbs of weight on my chest! lol
