I got a litter maid, and put it out in our front room. I didnâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t want to take out their other litter boxes, because the last time I did any changes to their boxes. Bingzy didn't like it, and went potty on my couch. I didn't want that taking place again. Well I let them explore the litter maid by themselves. They would sniff it, but wouldn't really go into it. Other then pawing at the litter, they just left it alone. They did this for a day, when they didn't go past that. I got down on the ground and put them in it with me next to it. I pet them and calmed them down. Showing them it was ok to be in. They didn't really freak out, they just didn't want to be in it. I left them alone after that. By the next day, I put the litter maid into the spot their old box was, and put that outside. I think Sammy used the litter maid, but Bingzy isn't sure of it yet. How can I get them to like it? I don't have it plugged in right now. I don't want them freaking out over that. So where do I go from here? I am not worried about Sammy; I think he will take to it. But I don't want Bingzy feeling stressed out; I don't care to have pee on my couch again.

I think what you're doing (not plugging it in, directing the cats to it) is best. Honestly, it may take time and Bingzy may never take to it. I don't know your cats, and I've never personally use a litter maid. Some cats won't, some are fine with it. Be patient, is all I can suggest.

Keep us posted? Good luck.

Thanks for your advise, they have had it over a week now. And they seem to be taking to it pretty well. Though I wish the litter maid was working better then it is. I think we just might take it back because the poo bin keeps trying to come up, so it dumps the poo on the floor under the bin. GGRRRRRRRRR

From what I read on their site, you should keep their old litterbox next to the LitterMaid and let it get dirty so they want to use the LitterMaid box instead. Check out their site for more information:

http://www.useandcaremanuals.com/pdf/LM500-LM950138.pdf

That is the online care manual for the LitterMaid, and has a section about how to acclimatize your cat to use LitterMaid. Hope that helps!!

make sure the lower part of the bin is under the little ledge on the side next to the litter area. it should just sort of 'pop' under there, & that way the rake can't 'grab' it & pull it up.

HI Maherwoman:
Thanks for the info, I should have thought of that. LOL But now I don't need it. They are doing pretty good now. But I have to find a way of getting the litter maid up off the ground. My Chi's are having a time of their lives, because they are able to get into the litter maid now. Grrrrr nasty dogs. LOL

LOL...not to mention your kitties might enjoy being up while they're going. Interesting...let me know if they like it off the ground.

I did that, it just keeps popping out of it. I don't know if it just this litter maid. It is an extra large one. I had a single size one that worked ok. I mean you could have problems with that same thing. But it worked out for a little while. If you took the bin out after it has been used at all. It would start acting up like it is doing now. But this one just wont work from the get go. It is getting me quite annoyed.

& it's also seated properly over the bar at the bottom of the open space where the bin goes? i've also had problems when i didn't have it placed just right.
you might look into those litter box covers - they look like they would help with the dogs.

I had two Wal-Mart storage bins as their kitty litter boxes. One had a side opening, and one had a top opening. Because one cat liked the top opening, and the other the side. Any ways when we moved into the home we are now in. We had so little room, that I had to stack them one on top of the other, just to get them both into the small bathroom we have. I didn't have any problems with it. You would think they wouldn't care for it, but not a problem. Boy am I blessed with great cats or what. LOL Now I am going to have to try and build a big box for the litter maid. I hope it wont cost us and arm and a leg. When I looked online for one, they wanted 200 for just what I am looking for. And it wasn't even big enough for the litter maid.

There isn't a bar on this new one. It says it is the new improved litter maid. With ionic filter cleaner. But I think it is worse then the old one I had 5 years ago.
