Hi..I adopted a 1 1/2 yr old neutered male a month ago as a playmate for my 11 month old female...they're getting along great (thx to all the support from you guys!)..but he's SUPER hyper. While she's mellow, and has always slept until I get up in the morning, he's up and running around at 5am every day and is going nonstop until around 9am. He settles down during the day, but those early morning hours are tornado central. Someone suggested I feed them later in hopes that he'll sleep later -- I've been doing that, but it's not helping. Does anyone have any advice as to how I might be able to calm him down? I live in an apartment and when they chase each other up and down the hall at 6am, my downstairs neighbor isn't too happy

Do you think it's partly age/partly still adjusting to the new environment?

Play like crazy with him right before you go to bed. For maybe 30 minutes or longer if you want. Then feed him warmed wet food and go to bed. See if that helps.

I think you need to wear him out at bedtime. Also does he have plenty of toys.

There are some toys that are self-inflicted. Maybe get a toy that can keep hyper kitty busy? Or, a structure that he can climb on and bounce around. Some cats are hyper by nature, like people. It may be a phase, yes. He might just be excited to be at home finally.
And I agree that you should try bedtime playing.
