Hi all. Theres is a cat that we started to feed and now she wont go away
She was never really a problem. She has kittens like clock work. For the most part she would take good care of the kittens and if we took them inside to play with them she would cry at the top of her lungs. She had a batch on April 10th 2006. she abandoned the kittens. It took us 3 days or so to find them and she had three. The one died. then there was a grey and a black one. We tried bottle feeding. the grey one would suck but not much and the black kitten not at all. I took them to an emergency room. They told me that the black kitten wasnt going to make it and that they have to put her to sleep. they told me that the grey kitten didnt need hospitalization and told me what to do to take care of it. I took the kiiten to the vet on the 17th of April. He eats pretty well he goes to the restroom when i help him, and he sleeps alot!
I think it was on the 19th or so that i noticed he had a little bit of gooey stuff coming form the corner of his left eye. it wasnt a massive amount but you could see it and it was a yellowish kind of tan color i wiped it off .The next morning there was none when i woke up but when i wiped it with a warmcloth a litle bit myabe half from the day before came out. That afternoon the right eye opened. i haven't seen anything come out since then i wipe his eye about 3 times a day with a warm cloth. It looks like there is a little bit of crust but not a whole lot. Sometimes he closes the right eye for a long period after he eats while he is crawling about and i worry he wont open it again and that it will be stuck closed as well. My mother in law told me that a previous liter from the same mom had a baby with a really bad eye infection (i kind of remeber) and that it took weeks but she wiped it daily and it opened. The neighbor has the cat and he seems to be doing well. Im scared to hurt him. I have never been around cats or raised a kitten and I cant afford a vet. I was going to take him in monday when he would be 2 weeks old if it hadnt open but i dont know what to do. If someone could help I'd greatly appreciate it. Thank you.
Sincerely,
A worried new mommy.

Some vets will give you a huge price break if they know you are rescuing a stray or abandoned kitten. Many years ago, I rescued a 3-wk old kitten and his eyes were sealed shut by infection, he was half dead from malnutrition. I took him to a local vet and he gave him a shot of B12 (B6?) vitamin, gave me a bunch of kitten formula, supplies etc and only charged me $5.

That little guy turned into a huge long-haired lean mean hunting machine

Try calling around to vets, explain your situation and see if any will give you a fee break. Otherwise, you can buy antibiotic ointment from petmeds to put on the kitten's eyes and maybe that will help

Be careful to dab his eye, not rub it.

If the mother is tame enough it would be a good idea to catch her, or you can call the HS and ask for a trap then get her spayed. It's not good for her to have litter after litter.

Good luck with your new baby.

The Bad news is, I live in Vegas and after calling about a hundred vets through out town I realized that no one will give you a price break around here. So i could't wait any longer and had to take Azriel ( My boyfriend informed me that when i made my user name i spelled it worng
) to the vet. The good news is they opened hi eye and it only cost me 60 dollars for them to look at him for 2 seconds and one tiny tube of medicine
I appreciate all the responses and I am at peace now that I can see his two beautiful eyes

Welcome....mom needs to be trapped so she doesn't have more kittens. Although she may not be a "bother", it will be healthier for her to be spayed. I would seriously contact a rescue group about borrowing a humane trap and getting her spayed.
