we have been feeding a stray cat in our garage for some time. She is very skittish and woulld never let me pet or come near her (occasionally she would let my kids play with her)
last Saturday she had 6 kittens in our garage!!
They are beautiful and all doing well. I have locked her and the babies in there. She has been taking wonderful care of them and now just seems to love us. She lets us hold the babies and HER! I made an appointment to have her spayed in 3 weeks but the vet was very vague about how to help the kittens.
Should I be supplementing feedings since there are so many kittens? Do i need to keep them warm? They are in a laundry basket with a comforter and a towel that I change evreyday.
I weighed them on thursday (3 oz to 5 oz)and today and they are growing...the largest is 7.9 oz and the runt is 5.9 oz.
One opened his eyes today as well. She seems to be doing a great job, but how do know if I need to help?

Thanks for this great site. i learned so much this week about kittens. You are all doing a great service to cat and their loving owners!

Actually it sounds like they are doing great. 1 week old and weight seems good. I would take them inside but mom doesn't need the stress. Just my opinion she is doing a good job and I would leave it be. If they feel cold use rice socks or a heating pad, They have to be kept warm.
