So a few days ago adymarie posted about her son being exposed to chicken pox. Well my hubby never had it (I just found out!) He has been complaining the last couple of days about not sleeping well, having body aches, and night sweats. So he comes home from work today, and I notice he has pink bumps. I'm like, hon you have bumps that look like zits or hives or something. He says, oh they are zits from sweating. So I go out, get my hair done, and he looks even worse! I decided, somethings up with this. My hubby then theorizes that it's because he was outside last weekend and maybe he has poison ivy. I told him no-way, you would have gotten that last week. I call my dad, my socalled medical expert, he is sleeping, but I'm chatting w/ my mom about what it could be. She says, well maybe he is allergic to something, maybe the laundry detergent. I notice he has them all over!!! I said, ya know it almost looks like chicken pox. My mom looks up the symtoms, and he has most of 'em. We are going to the doctor tommorow b/c it can be quite serious if you are an adult with them.I feel bad b/c I keep laughing b/c the whole idea is funny. He just came and asked if he looked stupid with chicken pox on his face
... Do you know anyone that had this as an adult?

My brother did. The older you are, the sicker you get from this.

My hubby had it when he was 23, was sick for two weeks and still have some scars (silly man couldn't help himself he claims) from it. He said the worst was the fever, he just couldn't seem to keep it down, so he ended up getting a sore stomach from all the aspirin he took to help.

Hope he gets better soon

My Dad had chicken pox as an adult (sadly he had it whilst on our summer holiday!
) He wasn't too bad with it, but he did have to grow a beard!

My Grandad also had it as an adult and ended up with shingles across his forehead

I also got shingles when I was older, but luckily it was just on my arm and specialist medication was available to help clear it up!

Poor husband! You're going to have to look after him.

My husband first got it a few years ago. It was the sickest he's ever been. He got them EVERYWHERE!! He had a really bad fever and just ached and ached. Took him about 2 weeks to recover. The worse thing was that there's no meds you can give him, just bedrest and drink lots of fluids.
I had chicken pox as a child, but I got shingles as and adult. Once you've had chicken pox, the virus lives on in one of the nerves in your spinal cord, and you can get shingles from it.

Baking soda baths! Yay! Sorry for your husband, hope he feels better soon. I'm sure the doctor can give him something, maybe one of the new antiviral medicines like acyclovir or Zovirax or something. Yea, I've heard that it is very bad as an adult. If you haven't had it there's a vaccine for it now so you don't get it that you should probably look into... I had it terrible when I was between preschool and kindergarten, and now I just remember how bad it itched and that my mom made me eat riced krispies in 7up!

Yup he has it alright. We went to urgent care, and the triage nurse didn't think he had it, but PA did. All he could say that yes he has it, he could prescribe some stronger antihistimines, but I think we will stick to benadryl. Antibiotics don't work on it b/c it is a virus. He had an oatmeal and baking soda bath today. Right now he is just cranky from being sick and the antihistimines. So now he he can't go back to worker until medically cleared. I had it when I was seven, so I'm all set. He took a nap this afternoon. What a pain, I had hoped to do something fun this weekend.

I feel so bad for him. I hope he gets rid of it quick

I have also never had it, and I always get nervous when I hear about someone I know that has it!

There is a shot for it. Thank goodness my brother got it, he never had them either and we saw him last weekend. Hubby didn't know that the shot existed and I didn't know that he had never had them! You think you know almost everything about some one and they go and fool you...
The good news is is that he is going to be able to work it out with work- I was really nervous because he was almost through with the training and you aren't supposed to miss a bunch of days. He would have gone in if he wasn't contagious!

Yes, there is a vaccine to prevent chickenpox! I would recommend everyone reading this who has not had chickenpox get the vaccine! And also check with your SO to be sure they have had either the illness or the vaccine. As mentioned, it could prevent both chickenpox and shingles!

Best of luck to your hubby as he recovers, and to you (in case he gets whiney)!

You could offer to do for him what my Aunt did for me! I was at Gram's for Sunday dinner and noticed a funny spot on my tummy. I went and showed my mom, who showed my Aunt, who said 'Yep! That's Chicken pox!' And then she promptly brought me to the dollar store and bought me probably at least $10-15 worth of toys! I felt like I hit the jackpot and they kept me busy while I was sick.

OooOoo I remember baking soda baths, yuck lol. If he doesn't want to bathe in it them mix up baking soda and water until it thickens and dab in on the spots, it works great for mosquito bites too. I played video games for a week while I was sick with them

Maybe I will threaten him w/ that. He claims not to be itchy today and doesn't want to take his bath. However he kept waking me up last night scratching and I've seen him doing it! I didn't spend a bunch of money on generic Aveeno for nothing darnit. It's very important they heal up b/c thats when he is clear to go back. He napped a bunch today, but is now busy cleaning the house b/c he doesn't want to stay home in a messy house? I've protested some, but don't want to discourage him to much! I'm sure the video games will start soon- however he was just out of work for 6 months so he is an expert at finding stuff to while away his time!
