so i posted this on my other one but i'll ask again anyways cuz i had a few more questions. the newborns are both trying to share the the same nipple. when one has it and the other wnts it they start to claw the crap out of each other. they dont really want any other nipple. is this normal? what should i do about it? Also Kitty doesnt want to be in her nsting box or cage. if i put her in the box or cage she will move her and the babies back onto the couch. that is where she (against my will) gave birth to them. is this ok? also any other advice you'd like to offer is greatly appreciated. i also wanted to thank you guys because i MOST DEFINETLY could not have done this without you

There is a reason why she doesn't feel safe in the nesting box or cage. Are there ohter animals around? Children? A lot of noise or light? Is it cold?

Try putting a nesting box in a darkish, warm place where there is liittle or no traffic and keep kids and other animals away right now. Then put her in there and leave her, and see if that helps.

If you can close the door to that room even better.

As far as the nipple thing goes, what I did when I had the same problem was to lay down in front of the nesting box while they were nursing (laying down is important as it is less threatening to the Mom) and I very gently guided one of the kittens noses over the next nipple. Usually once they feel a nipple on their nose, they'll grab on.

That's why I named my cat Rocky; he and one other used to fight over the same nipple all the time, so much that I named them Rocky and Apollo.

thanks charmed! moving her box helped! she wants to be near people. i say that because if there is no one in the living room where she had her babies she will try to move them into the room where there are people. but i moved the box and all is well! thanks!

I would definitely take that as a big compliment from her to you!!!

I'm glad she's calmed down and it worked. Sometimes it's simply of matter of "listening" to the Mom and figuring out exactly what it is she wants and needs.

Enjoy the new family and good luck!
