HI I am just looking to find out what would be the best heartworm med and parasite control out there. I have two cats and two small chi's that need some protection. I would like to be able to buy one supply and use it on both animals. Any info you can give me would be great. What do most Vets recommend?

Ya know I really expected a lot more response on this one. I thought everyone uses something to protect their cats.

We do- it's just that you asked for products approved for use on both cats and dogs, and I'm not aware of any.

I think that advantage can be used on cats and dogs. Do a search for threads related to this as I think Hissy has posted about it before. However, advantage doesn't give heartworm protection.
The only medicine that I know of for cats that protects against heartworms is Revolution. You could try calling your vet to see what other options there are besides Revolution.

I'm sorry I didn't really think of it that way. LOL I know that there will be meds out there for either dog or cat. I just meant the name like Revolution for dog, or Revolution for cat. Like that, not one product that can be used for both. I didn't think there was any. The important thing is that it will cover both heart worms and other types of worms or fleas.

So you think Revolution is the only one that can help me?

I'm pretty sure that Revolution is the only one that works against fleas, ticks, mosquitos and some are saying ringworm now as well.

I like REvolution also because it covers both heartworms and fleas in dogs and fleas and other wormies in cats kinda like a 2-for-1!

Thanks for all the info, now where can I get Revolution? Do you think our vet would carry it for cheaper then most other places?

I think Revolution is still prescription only. So you will have to either buy it from your vet or get a prescription to buy it from an online pet pharmacy. I don't know if feed type stores carry it for cats but you will still need a prescription.
